Much improved on recent performances mate, the only thing that concerned me was the amount of Possession we had, we were not incisive enough with the ball, over the whole 90 minutes we did not create enough clear cut chances in terms of our possession and had it not been for Warnocks tackle that led to the ball landing at Nando's feet it would have been a draw.

The signs are there though mate maybe its match fitness/form building up and when they peak all the pieces will fall into place, but like I said much improved showing.

As I say,I only caught 10 mins but I did notice, during that time, that a lot of balls were being played forward/wide to Dirk only to be played back (very quickly). Is this what you mean by "not incisive enough", Red?

Anyways, thank F**k for Nando, a great three points and success does breed success - onwards and upwards.

No what I meant mate is we kept hold of the ball well and dominated possession just the final ball around the edge of the 18 yarder was more often than not breaking down to a poor pass. If we had been more incisive in our final ball or at least as good as the build up play to it, then we could have had a sack full of goals.

thought we were utter sh*te last night

      couldnt string 3 passes together

that said the 3 points were most welcome

      Bit harsh that.

Thought that was our best performance since the Mancs game. We defended better, Carra led the back four well I thought. Our midfield controlled the game and whilst the final pass was missing we were passing it very well until that point.

For a team low on confidence with no player really in top form to go and control the game at Villa Park and win is a pretty good achievement in my book and I certainly wouldn't call it utter sh*te.

Improvements to be made 'for sure' but it's a huge step in the right direction.

our retention of the ball was poor

dont get me started on our right side

lacked ideas going foward, the full backs were poor, at least gerrard looked interested for a change

agree what you say about carra

      I wouldn't say that.

I thought they relied far too much on pumping the long ball up to Carew hoping he'd flick it on to Agbonlahor or hold up possession, and I thought our defence and midfield dealt with that quite well.

In all honesty I don't think either team dominated, and with them higher up the table and supposedly about to nick our spot in the top four, they looked like they were playing for a draw, or to sneak a goal, at home.

What you say about lacking ideas and the right side I'd agree with. Johnson didn't look sharp, and Kuyt just isn't playing well this season.

To the bad points then, on another day we could of lost that due to poor marking, luckily we didn't and i hope the players realise this and kick on.
Kuyt was sh*t again :-[ Is Riera injured?

      Aston Villa   Team Statistics   Liverpool
      0   Goals   1
      0   1st Half Goals   0
      4   Shots on Target   4
      4   Shots off Target   4
      1   Blocked Shots   7
      8   Corners   10
      13   Fouls   11
      0   Offsides   1
      1   Yellow Cards   1
      0   Red Cards   0
      72.5   Passing Success   77.8
      28   Tackles   32
      78.6   Tackles Success   65.6
      42.2   Possession   57.8
      49.6   Territorial Advantage   50.4

Don't know about any one else but the stats especially the ones in bold say to me we dominated possession and out passed Villa, as I originally stated our passing up to the 18 yarder was really good at times, it was just the final ball where we lacked.

Good stats 'LFCRed Blood' I thought first half was pretty even whilst both teams tried to play football, it changed in the second half when O'Neill changed tactics and his team started to play the long ball game, that's when our defence were under pressure, but we carried on the passing game and I thought we dominated the middle of the park, but, we were too narrow and our attacks were breaking down on Villas 5 man wall, but it took a mistake to let us through, good result, it was priceless looking at o'Neils face and his whinge after the game, thought he was going to cry.

They had a 20 minute spell at the end of the second half.  The rest of the game was the reds.

For the home team they were dismal.  They rely on counter-attacking and set-pieces.  All that was missing from our game was the final ball in to the box.  We tried to be too cute with the ball trying to score a Brazil goal.

I thought we were well worthy of the 3 points and if the lads continue to battle like they did last night it won't be long before the ability in the final third shines through.

Gerrard needs to pull his finger out though.  The way he is playing he may have problems when Masch, Lucas and Aquilani are all available.  Another poor performance from both him and Carragher.

Looking back at that game, and many in recent months, you would think Torres and Reina were the two local lads playing for their local club.

Vital, crucial, invaluable, critical, essential ---- 3 Points!!!

Results are everything in the present situation - and suddenly the gap between us and 4th place is just 4 points, with a chance to cut that to 1 point when we play Spurs.

Mind you, we got away with some sloppy defending at corner-kicks (Downing's volley in the first half, Carew's header just wide in the second).

Sloppy defending has cost us countless goals this season and nearly did so again last night. Silly to overlook it.
