The Fans' Voice: Liverpool's season so farhttp://www.espnstar.com/football/from-the-desk/news/detail/item377634/The-Fans%27-Voice:-Liverpool%27s-season-so-far/JD speaks to Eugene YS Han about Liverpool performances so far in the 2009/10 Premier League season.
Up to this point in the season, what is the best or worst your club can achieve this coming season?JD : The worst we can achieve is ending up without a place in any form of European football. However, the ability of the players based on last season can not be questioned. Our form may be poor but with if we get our act together a place in the top four should be easily achievable.
So far, what is your opinion of Rafael Benitez as a football manager?JD : Rafa is a fine tactician - questions can be asked about his ability to motivate the players. Under our new owners he has not been given a proper transfer budget, and I value his loyalty to Liverpool - no transfer budget and having to sell to buy cannot be easy. Without him we would be in far worse shape. When he eventually goes to Real Madrid he will win everything in sight with proper support from the club's owners and I for one will be pleased for the man.
Who is your key player and why?JD : Fernando Torres. Not only one of the finest footballers I have ever seen but dedicated and filled with passion. Steven Gerrard could learn a lot from Torres' sheer determination and commitment.
Who is the unsung hero in your team and why?JD : Pepe Reina. In my view, and as a Scouser, I think he would make a terrific Liverpool captain. Not only the world's best keeper and the strongest player at the club - but the way he conducts himself on the pitch you would think he was the local boy playing for his boyhood club.
Which new signing has impressed you most? Which one the least?JD g: Glen Johnson started off well but after picking up a couple of injuries has struggled to get back in to a Liverpool team playing poorly. We haven't made many new signings this season so I can't really judge who has impressed me the least.
Which area do you think your team need to strengthen in January?JD : We need a striker. A proven striker. We look lost on the wings at times. Unfortunately our club is mired in debt and therefore we will not see any of the money from Xabi Alonso. We need 3 or 4 players of proper quality - but we will be lucky to have enough cash to get in 1 average player.
Where will your club finish this season?JD : 4th. I think Chelsea will win the league but I honestly have no idea who will make up the rest of the top four. It wouldn't surprise me to see United and Arsenal outside it.
What is Anfield Online?JD : Anfield Online is one of the biggest independent football club websites in the UK. We originally set up in 1997 and have a team of 15 editors and columnists. I have been watching Liverpool for 27 years and still live in Liverpool.
