      Another day, another injury
      Jun 05, 2010 06:25:43 pm
Slovakia defender Martin Skrtel has been taken to hospital for scans on an ankle injury.

Skrtel was substituted after just 13 minutes of his team's World Cup warm-up game against Costa Rica on Saturday.

He was immediately sent away for tests and Slovakia are now facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of the damage.

The Liverpool centre-back is one of his country's most important players and if he is ruled out of the tournament it would strike a major blow to their chances of progressing past the group phase.

Skrtel has 10 days to recover for Slovakia's opening Group F match against New Zealand, while they also face Paraguay on 20th June and Italy on 24th June.

Just heard on SSN that Skrtel said he is going to be fine. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. He could just be playing through the pain.

I will have the link for this later when it comes up on sky sports website, but if you turn on sky sports news right now it will tell you that Martin Skrtel is going to hospital for a scan on his ankle. Hopefully it isn't too serious and I swear this is not a "I heard a rumour" story.

      Skrtel allays injury fears
      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/skrtel-allays-injury-fears

Martin Skrtel admits he is hugely relieved that the ankle injury he sustained in Slovakia's clash with Costa Rica will not ruin his World Cup dream.

The Liverpool star lasted just 13 minutes of his country's 3-0 success and was immediately rushed to hospital to undergo a scan on his ankle on Saturday evening.

However, the results showed no serious damage and the Reds' No. 37 is confident he will be fit for the finals.

"It is not too bad, it is just a gash," said Skrtel.

"I think that in a few days it will be okay."

He added: "I saw the second half of the match. I think we will have delighted the fans. We wanted to win this match to put ourselves in a good place before the World Cup. We managed that.

"Perhaps the only negative is my injury, because to go off after quarter of an hour is not nice."

Phew. Now go and enjoy the World Cup and come back uninjured!

He went in to the World Cup 'narrowly' fit anyway. This seems to be a setback to his recovery rather than an entirely new injury.
