I think that the inclusion of "Professional" players in national tournaments has brought sports down. World Cup, Olympics etc..It used to be that the teams were made up of young, emerging talents that had everything to play for. They had to play great in order to get a bit of recognition and make a career out of it. Now their really is no hard incentive. Granted winning the World Cup is great. But if you compare it to guys who make millions regardless of their play where is the Incentive to give it your all.

The last time a team of nobodies won a major sporting event was 1980 when the US hockey team, which was all college kids beat Russia.  Since then the inclusion of professional players in these world competitions has watered down the play.

It used to be that after these losses you would see players cry because they were so devastated after losing. But that doesn't happen anymore.I'm tired of seeing millionaires playing matches that mean nothing to them.

This is the greatest tournament in the world, for one reason.

Its full of the greatest players in the World.

      Don't take that from us.

At 2-2 the game would have been a lot different, the 3-1 goal was the KO. I see an all south american final for this WC, if so it's a real failure for european football.

      ps:
Phantom Goal yes, catchy name... but what about the "phantom defender" aka Terry?
Thanks john for remembering me how much i hate Chelsea...

I've seen the game at my usual pub in Paris, the only German supporters where... French.  ??? I know i'm french but i really don't get my country anymore...

I see William Hill have said they'll pay out if you bet on Lampard to score.

Does f**k all about them going out the World Cup though.

Makes me laugh the stuff the bookies do to seem all noble. They say f**k all about all the money the soft bas**rds have burned betting on Rooney to score throughout the tournament. :D

Just about to say that, CRK. No one gives two tosses about Lampard. Rooney was where the money was, the soft gets.

They should give all that money on Rooney back. It's in the rules.

      Technically, he didn't play. :f_tongueincheek:

And I bet the heads at Sainsbury's are doing backflips at the minute. All people who bought tellies leading up to the World Cup were getting their money back if England won it. :D

Weren't Currys paying a tenner for every England goal if you spent 500 quid on a telly? So that's a whopping 30 quid back then. Reckon they'll throw another fiver in for Lampard's phantom goal? As we told you in 2005 Frank, it was over the line ;)

In Ireland I think there was a currys deal over there, that if you bought a tele and france didn't make it through the group stages.
You would get the tele for free.

I wish I lived over there.

I said from the start, Capello should have taken Adam Johnson, a youngster who actually has talent and is aching to play, and loves it, isn't big headed and a tw*t ala Rooney.

      Same here. :D

Bet they're gutted now. The telly people, not the Irish/Irish who bought tellies. :D

With regards to what I have previously said about our media when England are actually in the competition, I think that the telly might be a bit more bearable now they're not switching to the England camp every two minutes to say Barry's just won a hand of poker with a pair of tens.

Can get on with the spectacle of the World Cup now without the distractions that come hand in hand with our ridiculous notion of coverage.

I think the F.A need to look at the coca cola championship for england players, players who's ego's are not inflated and players who will play as a unit as appose to individuals.

What me and my dad were saying

Adam Johnson would be a start. Came from boro. Doesn't seem a kunt, a generally good player with talent. May be at shitty but would a start.

442 will get exposed against 451 ot 4231 every time.

Upson was a nightmare, and so was Terry, the daft tw*t couldn't stick to his zone, and barry couldn't pick up ozeil, outnumbered in midfield, and one of our best players stuck out on the left.

Inept doesn't even begin to cover it.
