Over a month ago, I would have been really excited about the prospect of Lucas heading for the exit door- Stoke, Salmon On A Plate FC, it wouldn't have mattered- a door was a door, and Lucas would have been stepping through it.
Fast forward to the afters of today's game against Chelsea, and Stoke or any team would have to bring really serious bling to the table for me to want to even think of looking at a sale.
He has now begun to prove he is more than capable of not just good, but match winning performances. He blew everyone out of the water with his performance today, and I mean EVERYONE.
Whats more, the performance was not isolated, it has started to be the norm with him of late- ever since his recent call up for Brazil where he also played incredibly well, Lucas has been on fire and that form has carried forward into his performances in a red shirt. I personally looked at him as been key to a victory or a decent result against Chelsea today, along with Torres and Gerrard. He proved me right, and if he continues along the path he is on, I see no reason why we won't continue to mention his name in the same breath as those two Liverpool legends time and again.
I'm eating rather a lot of humble pie with this post, as I have to admit I'm not a Lucas fan, and if I had my way Lucas would have been on the continent dazzling
them with this performance rather than on Merseyside as was the case today...
He obviously takes unique management- a confidence player who gives his very best after well rested and careful preparation. Long may that continue as we have found a new star in our ranks, and Stoke or any other team cannot afford him in theirs!
What a gush...but hey, I am that impressed right now.
Lucas to stay (did I just type that?)
