Fowler agrees to sign for Cardiff
      Jul 21, 2007 01:23:51 pm
      Link : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/6281850.stm

Robbie Fowler has agreed to join Cardiff on a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old striker was released by Liverpool at the end of last season and has rejected moves to Leicester City and Sydney FC in Australia's A-League.

Fowler will be re-united with Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale, who was in charge at Leeds when he signed from Liverpool for £11m in November 2001.

He is expected to be officially unveiled at a news conference in Cardiff early next week.

Sydney FC had hoped to lure Fowler, and chief executive George Perry said: "We're bitterly disappointed but we're satisfied we did everything we could to persuade Robbie to come.

"Robbie was tremendously impressed by what he saw in Sydney but he's chosen to go elsewhere."

Fowler travelled to Sydney for talks and admitted he had been hugely impressed with the set-up.

The former England striker's representative George Scott said: "He was incredibly impressed with them and the city. The only thing against them is that Robbie is a Premiership player and he is used to Premiership money.

"The Premiership is unique in terms of the crazy money it generates and there is nothing in the world that replicates it, not even Spain. That money is well beyond Sydney and the Australian league and we know that.

"It is really a battle between money and quality of life and believe me, quality of life counts for a lot of money. All the money in the world is not going to buy your family's happiness."

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was quoted on Liverpool's website as saying: "We have offered an attractive package and are hopeful Robbie will decide to come.

"Obviously I know Robbie from his days at Leeds and he's an outstanding finisher and outstanding footballer."

Fowler made his Liverpool debut as an 18-year-old in 1993, scoring 171 goals in 330 games before joining Leeds for £11m in 2001 and then Manchester City for £6m in 2003.

Fowler returned for a second spell at Anfield in January 2006, although his starting appearances were limited.

I've got a very strong feeling that a certain member of this forum will be exstatic with this news.
For me, I'd like to think he will score for fun for Cardiff, but the Championship is a strong league and defenders will want to get the better of him any old means.
Good luck Robbie, let's hope you get the games you deserve and with that the goals will follow.

      Good luck Robbie.

Personally - it would have been Australia for me.. but maybe he sees Cardiff as a better challenge. Is that the second time Ridsdale has bought him?

Good luck Robbie. Hope you do great at Cardiff.

Would have definately been Australia for me too though.
I think he still wants to be playing at a competetive level. And that will be the case playing for Cardiff rather than playing in Oz. The Championship is a tough league when it comes to physical competetion.

How many goals do we reckon he'll get for Nicola's Bluebirds then? I'll go for twelve.

Is that twelve goals, or twelve properties he will purchase for his housing empire?

Sure he will enjoy the cultured Cardiff support

Thanks for your support for Cardiff guys :)

I dunno where those pictures are, it's not Ninian, that stadium in the pics has 2 tiers :o We have some fans that are idiots I'm not gonna deny that, but most of our fans are alright really!! Just all other clubs hate us and try to fight so we retaliate..

I am soo happy, but anxious now he's not officially signed until Monday most likely, when he actually signs I will be jumping for joy :D

After he turned down Oz I knew he'd come to us not Leicester (or Port Vale) because my mate said and he always finds out things before they are meant to be out, but I ahd to keep quiet. When the rumours first started I was like 'no WAY would he come to City when he could go to Oz' but yeah the Australian league I think isn't that competitive. Then again the Championship has a really really fast pace I just hope his fitness lefel stays high and he can score. If he scores at least 10 for us I will be happy :)

      WOOOO!

As long as I like the new shirt, I am getting his name on it :)

Nic, the pictures are from Cardiff's day out at Highbury.

      There were two clues:

Thierry Henry in the top picture, and
The Steward with the words 'Arsenal Steward' on his back n the bottom picture ;)

Yeah - let's hope we get them in the cup. I remain convinced that Fowler's association with us is not over and he will be back one day.

Ahh well JD I wasn't looking at the players or the writing on the steward's backs, just to see if I knew any of the guys getting in trouble! Was that in August time last year, or the season before? Because the season before lots of our fans JUST made KO because of the damn coaches parking far far away *grr*

PS - Fowler signed today, and the press conference is on SSN 9am tomorrow  ;D  ;D  ;D

I think everyone is gonna get one with Fowler on the back, I hope they pre-print loads of them cause people are gonna be queuing outside the shop Friday morning (it doesn't open til 11am ::) ) so if they print a load of them NOW it will save a lot of time.

I'll get one with Fowler on, not because he's such a big star and I'm a glory hunter, but because I can remember the kit and the season when God came to us and got us promoted :D Hehe.

      -------

AAARGH I just wrote a whole reply then closed the tab F***ing dammit  :action-smiley-060:

Ok. I MET GOD. He was lovely. He was the last player you saw when you went around the 2nd room. He was lovely, my mum told him she also supported Leeds and he was like "Leeds and Cardiff.. that's like supporting Liverpool and Man Utd that!" and I said "tell me about it"  :D  My sister and I had a photo taken with him, which he was more than happy to do even though he was meant to go home an hour earlier:

Then I wished him luck for the season and told him the fans would love him as I shook his hand, and he winked and said 'thank you' ahhhhhhh  ;D

Here's a video of some players signing, including Fowler signing my Dad's top at the end:

And here's one of the tour of Ninian Park, going from the boot room, Dave Jones's office to the Physio room :) :

I will be scanning autographs soon so you guys can see Fowler's!!

You might be pleased to know that in the training session he looked like he was working his ass off, he was ahead of the other 5 in his group doing shuttle runs and when he wasn't doing those he was doing keepy uppys or talking with Dave Jones or shooting balls into the goal! He seems genuinely happy to be here, and he wants to do well, you can tell with stuff he's saying and how hard he's working.. he knows it will be a challenge here, he's not taking an easy route he could've done that by going to Australia (IMO) ..absolute legend!!

Good to see him happy - great picture Nic thanks.

He looks like he really sees it as a challenge - and maybe he has already assessed the Cardiff property market.

He's a good lad - I had really wished it worked out better for him at Anfield. He was unlucky that we didn't get many injuries to our front men otherwise he would have been in like Flynn but it wasn't to be.

I can really see us getting Cardiff (assuming you get through the early rounds) in one of the cups - you know how 'random' the draws are... ;)

That would be brilliant if it was Cardiff - Liverpool ;D

Here's an 'official' song for him:
      Robbie Fowlers magic
      he's got a cracking shot
And when he signed for Cardiff
      He said I'm buying Splott.
He bought up half the Valleys and all the Gurnos toooo
      and 40 thousand BLUEBIRDS said
      We gonna live with YOOOOOOOO
      OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
WE ALL LIVE IN A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
WE ALL LIVE IN A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE

That would be brilliant if it was Cardiff - Liverpool ;D

Here's an 'official' song for him:
      Robbie Fowlers magic
      he's got a cracking shot
And when he signed for Cardiff
      He said I'm buying Splott.
He bought up half the Valleys and all the Gurnos toooo
      and 40 thousand BLUEBIRDS said
      We gonna live with YOOOOOOOO
      OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
WE ALL LIVE IN A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
WE ALL LIVE IN A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE
      A ROBBIE FOWLER HOUSE

      Tehehehe I love it :D

When what started? We sang the 'magic hat' song for Peter Thorne (ahh I miss him) and this season just gone Steve Thomson (when he scored which was roughly 9 times).

It took about 3½ hours. At first, well after about 2½ hours of queuing,  they said Fowler and Dave Jones had gone home but we could still go in to see the other players, I thought 'fine'. Then we got nearer and they said we couldn't go in at all, and everyone went mad. They must have seen about 6,000 people, there were roughly 100 left and they were saying no!? Eventually we were allowed in and I thanked every player for staying a bit longer to see us.
I didn't see the interview on the pitch because I wanted to get my shirt and queue up for the meeting.
      What was the interview like?
He looked fit in training didn't he, he was working really hard, I was pleased to see :D

      Here is my new shirt:

And if you don't like seeing his name on a blue shirt, just remember it looks like this on the front:

He was really really nice, inside he was prob fed up of signing and having photos done but he was more than happy to sign people's shirts, hats, leaflets, and have photos and chat with my mum about her supporting Leeds hahaha ;D But he seemed genuinely pleased that people were saying 'welcome to Cardiff' and all this to him. I hope you get to meet him one day he's a brilliant guy!!

Am I able to see that vid at all? Don't worry if not, but I had to go get my shirt and queue up so missed the interview :(

PS Sorry guys I never saw this topic in the Transfer forum: http://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php/topic,3295.0.html But I am over the moon that he has signed, and I do believe him that he's here to help us get to the Prem, and not to sit around and lazily earn wages that we can barely afford, hehe.

Yeah, I was in the Grange End, was well fun! Match wasn't bad too, that Green is quite good.. and quite yummy. Though my bf's brother played with him when he was at Newport before we bought him! Was gutted Robbie went off I thought he would play one half, but he felt a pull and didn't wanna make it worse, so fair play to him it was only a friendly anyway!!

I missed my place of worship hehe haven't been since April! :( Can't wait for Stoke on Saturday now ;D

Fans brand City striker 'a disgrace'
      Aug 19 2007
by Marc Baker, Wales On Sunday

THIS is the drunken face (sorry no picture in the link) of superstar Robbie Fowler pictured just one month after being hailed the saviour of crisis hit Cardiff City.

The striker who is short of match fitness and recovering from a thigh strain didn’t play in yesterday’s 0-2 win at QPR.

In fact he is yet to play a competitive game for the Bluebirds since signing a deal worth a reported £15k-a-week. But that didn’t stop the former Liverpool and England ace drinking the night away in a Cardiff bar until the early hours of Saturday morning.

Fowler, 32, was seen sinking beers with two fellow City players at Conti’s bar in Mill Lane at 2am.

Last night, the dad-of-four – who is worth £28m and is one of the Premiership’s greatest-ever goalscorers – was blasted a “disgrace” by three devoted Bluebirds fans who caught their hero “smashed” during his night on the tiles.

Yesterday, they handed over this mobile phone footage of the star to Wales on Sunday.

One of the fans, a 23-year-old trainee accountant from Roath, Cardiff, said he was stunned to find Fowler “drunk” at a time when he is recovering from injury and trying to improve fitness.

The Bluebirds season ticket holder said: “Two friends and I had just been for a curry in Mill Lane in the early hours of yesterday when we saw Robbie go into Conti’s

“Because we are fans, we followed him in. But when we got inside we were disappointed to see the state he was in. “To me, he was drunk. He was sitting by himself by the bar drinking.

“I thought he looked bloated. His eyes were half shut. If Robbie is injured he should be recuperating, not out on the lash.”

Fowler arrived at Cardiff City FC in a blaze of glory four weeks ago and praised fans for giving him a “passionate welcome”.

The player, who was released by Liverpool at the end of last season, has signed a two-year deal at the Championship club.

At the time, he said: “The passion in the welcome is brilliant, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

But the trainee accountant said: “Fowler is seen as a God by fans but to me, he has set a bad example by getting drunk like this. He should know better.

“Cardiff fans will be stunned to see these pictures. My mate took them as we felt we had a duty to let fans know what is going on.

“Robbie told me not to worry, saying he would bang in the goals for Cardiff City but I feel a bit cheated. If it was the end of the season then fair enough, but Fowler has not played a single game or earned his money yet.

“Robbie was partying without a care in the world.”

Another onlooker, a 23-year-old insurance worker from Cardiff, said: “I shook his hand but he appeared too hammered to notice. His eyes were glazed.”

Another customer, a 24-year-old finance worker from Cardiff, said: “I took the pictures on my mobile at 1.50am.

“Robbie is supposedly getting £15,000-a-week at Cardiff. It is a huge amount of money. To me, his behaviour was unacceptable.”

But Cardiff City defended their star signing last night saying Fowler was free to do what he wanted after being given the weekend off by manager Dave Jones.

Club spokesman Julian Jenkins said: “Robbie worked hard all week in training and Dave Jones gave him the weekend off. Robbie is free to do what he wants in his own time.”

Yesterday, Conti’s owner Giovanni Malacrino, 45, said Fowler was in his bar until the early hours.

But he defended the star’s actions, saying footballers are entitled to a night out.

He said: “Robbie did come by for a drink but players work hard and play hard. It’s part of their make-up.

“Just because he is a footballer he should not be treated differently than anyone else.

“I have seen worst states than this. I have seen players drunk and score hat-tricks the next day. Let Robbie’s feet do the talking.”

Last month, Fowler said: “Obviously I’m confident of my ability and hopefully I’ll show the Cardiff City supporters what I’m all about.”

Fowler’s agent was unavailable for comment last night.

I was just gonna come to post about this! These 'fans' are so pathetic. If they realise, Robbie has bit of a 'funny' face anyway - he probably looked 10 x drunker than he was. So what if he had a few drinks and got a bit tipsy anyway?! It doesn't bother me. He's been working his ass off so much in training he needs a night out or he'd go mad wouldn't he! I'm not worried about it. Imagine him and Hasselbaink starting on Saturday.. OH MY GOD :o :D

Errrrrm he just hasn't scored yet that's all! So he's gonna get a bit of stick, some fans still think he's just here forr the money  ::) But I know he's here because he wants to play football. If he was justafter the money he would've gone to a club not in £30m debt! Against Plymouth on Saturday our whole team was awful, Hasselbaink looked like he'd never played football in his life before, but Fowler came on with about 20mins to go and had a few chances. Hasselbaink scored an equaliser against Watford on Saturday night but then they scored again to win 2-1 I haven't seen this goal yet though.

I'm sure Fowler will score for us soon, then, he won't stop  ;D  Oh, and he's not 100% match fit either, and fans think he should be fit as soon as the season starts, even though he hardly played last season and didn't do much pre-season training! So he's playing like 20-30mins in games to build up his fitness, and I think he's played a few reserve games to get match time too.. Oh yeah and on Saturday he was only declared fit to play in the morning before the game because he'd had a bad back on Friday but it was okay by Saturday.

I'm patient, he will score soon *does the ayatollah*  ;D

Of course he will Nic. He may have problems with not being match fit, but he'll never lose his instinct.

I'm sure you'll be the first one to come to his defense if people are slagging him off.  ;)

Probably did - I think it helped him settle in, get used to Cardiff life and stuff. Absolute legend and he worked his ass off today, played really well for 82ish mins before he was substituted off, and did the ayatollah after scoring his 2nd, then had a joke with another of our players that it was another header hehe

I'm glad he's scored. I told everyone once he scored he wouldn't stop and he's proving me right!
