Liverpool vs Stoke City (Pre-Match) Wed 2/2/11 K.O. 8pm

If we have Johnson + Cole as the wingers, the team will be very unbalanced. All the attacks will be down once side of the pitch, due to Cole's constant cutting in. We would be easier to defend against as Stole will know where we're going to pass to. Cole only played as a left-winger for Chelsea and England to accomodate hiom/no-one else could play there.

Pennant will have a field day with all the space and imagine his pace vs Fabio's 1 v1 as it will eb as Joe Cole won't cover him back the whole time as he wont't be there. At least Maxi is somewhat natural in the position and can attack and defend adequately.

This could be a good game to give to the Greek as Stoke always use there long throw tactics. I would also like to see Joey Cole get some game time against these.

I'd put Joe Cole on the left every day of the week in place of Maxi. Don't know what people are seeing in Maxi.

Let's hope the fact Stoke have a cup match on Sunday is beneficial to us.

Play Johnson in Kuyt's place with Aurelio at left back, and Joe Cole instead of Maxi on the left. Joe might not be able to run fast but at least he has a football brain

Anyone know how far away Carra is? if fit i would have Carra and Agger at the back bookended by Kelly and Glen, Lucas to play in front of them, a midfield of Gerrard Meireles and Maxi and play Cole in the hole behind Nando, Sotis to play if Carra unavailable with Skirtle warming the bench, Kuyt to drop out for a game or two, thats my selection, in all honesty we need to create more hence Cole in the hole, Gerrard can wander and supply also can defend from the front, also Raul to put another shift in and work from box to box and Lucas has to be at the top of his game, Maxi needs to step up or face been benched next game V Chavs, i think we will win this but it wont be easy, Pullis has his teams well organised and its possible they could go one better than Fulham, i'd be happy with a 1-0 Vic, c'mon Redmen, Believe!!

I really believe our best way to beat these is down the wings. Kelly and Johnson have done well last couple of games in that regard but Kuyt and Maxi in my view should sit this one out.

Options? There in lies the problem. Cole would probably cut in from the left too much. Aurelio could play there but cat see him making powerful runs into the box. Right sided options are even worse.Stevie could play there but like Cole would cut in too often. Johnson could do a job buthe's played very well at left back!     

Think the lads are starting to believe in themselves a bit more now. Even when Fulham had plenty of the ball, we always seemed determined to get a block in or just a toe in. They are much improved in the effort dept. That alone makes it harder for the oposition as they can't settle as well. Think  we will win this one, may be ugly again but our new found battle formation will see us through the later stages again. Nando 1,  Stevie 1, Kuytt another late one.  Stoke 1.         3 - 1 THE RED MEN.

I want a win! I also hope for a really good stream to work for me.

And to be honest, we should and we must beat Stoke City. We've won two games on the trot and let's not go backwards again. We're in touching distance with 6th, and after it's 5th and finally 4th, so let's no give up and let's keep pushing on!

But if we beat Stoke, then I'm pretty sure that 10 points out of 15 (or 2 points a game) would represent pretty impressive, and almost certain top four form?

One thing I do hope from the Stoke game is a much improved Anfield atmosphere.  You have a duty now to help roar on not only the team, but frighten the opposition, and ensure Kenny stays at LFC.
