Liverpool have been linked with a late swoop for Lazio forward Mauro Zarate.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish will need to add another striker to his squad if, as expected, Frenchman David N’Gog is sold to Bolton Wanderers.

And talk from Italian source "Sportitalia" has linked the English Premier League giants with Lazio’s Argentine goal-getter Mauro Zarate.

The 24-year-old, who has played in England before with Birmingham City, has been mooted to be a target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over the past two weeks, but the Gunners have yet to do a deal with Lazio.

Lazio’s Serie A rivals Inter are also in the race, although their interest has cooled since Diego Forlan was captured from Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool are believed to want to take Zarate on a season-long loan from Lazio with the option to make his move a permanent one at the end of the campaign.

Lazio however would rather sell Zarate outright if he is to leave the Stadio Olimpico.

Not really.  Same arm movement, but the meaning behind it is different.

He's nippy but not that quick.

My good points about him; very two-footed, comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play anywhere in attack.

Bad; his shooting is inconsistent, his passing is inconsistent, can run in to dead ends a lot, his delivery in to the box isn't good and he can't head a ball.

If it's a loan deal then I'll be happy to take a chance on him but if it's a deal then 12m is the highest I hope we go.

Mauro Zarate will play for Inter in the campaign ahead after he made a surprise move from Lazio.

The Argentine was told to find a new club after being informed that he no longer featured in the plans of boss Edy Reja.

The 24-year-old attacker will join the Nerazzurri on a loan deal that will cost the Milanese outfit €2.7m.

Inter will then have the option to buy him outright at the end of the season for a fee of around €15m.

Zarate’s move to Inter now suggests that previous target Rodrigo Palacio will remain with Genoa.
