Get rid of the missus - Football Manager 2008!
      Aug 31, 2007 10:18:42 pm
Due out soon (26th October 2007 on PC) .. the following is information from the FM 2008 website

      Available via Amazon saving £10

Football Manager returns before Christmas packed full of new features for fans of the much-acclaimed series from Sports Interactive to feast their eyes on. Football Manager 2008 is out on PC / Mac this autumn, and offers football fans the chance to take on the greatest job on earth; manager of there favourite football club!

Bigger, smoother and more in-depth than ever, Football Manager 2008 is packed full of so much newness it could well take a lifetime to discover every new feature. So we asked Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at SI Games, to take us through some of the changes you'll want to hear about most...

Transfer Center - A new way of managing all current transfer and loan bids for your club, both incoming and outgoing, making it easier to compare bids and reject or accept them.

Finance Revamp - Sports Interactive have updated the finance area of Football Manager 2008 to better reflect the ever-changing modern football world. More information is available to the manager too, including, but not limited to, corporate matchday income, season ticket news, investment funds, improved sponsorships, collective win bonuses and the ability to move around funds from the wage budget and transfer budget (and vice versa) at any point to help you in your quest for the ideal squad.

International Management - The international management gameplay has been completely revamped for Football Manager 2008, including, but not limited to, media improvements, international retirements, player interaction, international scouting, improved national pool selection, captain selection and a separation of international and club morale for players.

Match Flow - The largest change to matchdays in a Sports Interactive game since the introduction of the 2D match engine. Match flow brings more atmosphere to matchdays with match previews, team talks, opposition player instructions, the match itself, half time and post match now seamlessly following on from one another. There's no more pausing to make tactical changes and you'll find a mini-radar pitch whilst making those tactical changes to keep you in touch with what's going on in the match.

Confidence - You can now easily tell what your board and supporters think about your performance in the game through the new confidence section. This gives you feedback not just on your current progress in competitions, but also your financial management and signings.

Easier to Use - A much cleaner skin, a brand new advisor system to help you through various areas of the game, a new notes and notebook system, better button positioning for simpler navigation and an updated tutorial and manual. Also, coach reports to make taking over a new team easier and a new calendar system - which lists all important dates throughout the season - help to make Football Manager 2008 the easiest Sports Interactive game to use yet.

Fan Days - The board can now arrange fan days to boost ailing attendances, or for matches that are likely to attract a low crowd, with a long-term affect to attendances if all goes well.

Awards Overhaul - A full overhaul of the awards system inside the game, which is not only more accurate but also includes new awards, such as the European golden boot and a 'best eleven', which shows the all-time (in-game) best XI for all teams and nations.

Match Engine Improvements - A greatly improved match engine, once again utilizing the footballing brain of Ray Houghton and other tools used by real-life managers, to make the most accurate simulation of football in a computer game even more like-life than ever before. Oh, and the ability to change the pitch dimensions at the start of the season to suit your style of play better.

Expanded Media - More media and feedback than ever before, plus more detail in existing media, and a new competition news section to find out what major things are going on in all league competitions.

Regenerated Player Photos - All in-game regenerated players now have pictures using FaceGen technology to give each player more personality. This gives the ability for players to be seen to mature and grow-up looks-wise in front of your eyes as the game is going on.

Speedyfastier - Saving and loading is now significantly faster, with network gaming quicker and smoother to play, as well as tactical changes and match reports being faster than ever before.

Amazon are selling it for £25 (RRP is £35)

I can't wait! I sat for most of my summer nights playing Football Manager, trying to find a way to win every game without fail (by the way, I couldn't find a way).
The match engine can be really exciting, and to be honest I enjoy the game thoroughly, but it can really get on your nerves when you go on a poor few games or when an expensive striker just can't find the net.
I guess I know how Benitez has been feeling over these last few years with Morientes, Cisse, Bellamy and even Crouch at times.

It's allright.  Most of the images are turned off in the demo so hard to assess the aesthetics but it certainly looks smart.

Not played FM since 2006 version I think so I like all the commenting on opposition players - telling the Chairman what my ambitions for the season are - and the team talk stuff.

Looks very good, and seems to run fairly quick too.

If I was a student again and didn't have a forum to look after I'd be like a pig in sh*t.

Just download uTorrent.  You don't even need to 'install' it - just run the program.

I'm sticking with FM07 for now at least. Just about to win the Championship with Wolves in my first season and take 'em up into the Premiership. :)

Couple of nice features in the newer version, but not worth having to start again and the money spent.

I went to play it again but it would'nt load so had to restart but my team was

reina, ustari, bouzanis (swapped him for ochoa)

ramos, alves, carra, hobbs, agger, insua, marcelo, san jose

gerrard, lucas, dos santos, silva, babel, kaka, alonso, damien ray

      torres, aguero, villa, bojan, amoo

I was in the 2010/11 season and had won all but 4 games and had just been granted permission to expand the stadium. i had also signed some more youngesters that would have been fighting for 1st team and was just waiting for the next tranfer window for them to go through

I was TRFC and signed El Zhar and Kyle Lafferty on loan. Scored 47 goals between them (Lafferty gettin 33 alone) and was promoted. Now in 2013/14 season and in the prem with Tranmere. Got Pletikosa in goal, Ronald Huth, Carles Puyol and Danny Gabidon as me 3 centre halves. Ian Kirkwood (promoted through the youth) and Joe Mattock as me wing backs. James Keene and Edu as central midfielders with Johann Smith, Kyle Lafferty and Cameron Jerome up top.

Currently 13th in me second premiership season. Been linked with the Arsenal and Chelsea jobs as well, but I'm not leavin Prenton Park for anywhere but Anfield :D

FM2008 - what a game! I was reading something about FM2009 the other day, which supposdely has a 3D match engine now. Out in Nov - should be great!

I was going to post about Fantasy Football / Dream Teams for this coming season, but I can't see how to create a new discussion (any tips, please?). Where are people signing up for their fantasy football / dream teams?

My name is Crouchinho and i have an FM problem.

It all started one sunny Friday afternoon, i was at my mates and he gave me some program to put FM08 on my computer without the disc, quite impressed i was but it took some time with him giving me instructions over the phone to do it. Nerdiest thing ever in my life.

I have had it for 6 days, i have played it for 28 hours all up and to think i've had school and sleep time. I've been sacked 5 times but i took over for Tenerife in Spain and got them from 11th with 14 matches to go to 4th which was a proud moment in my managerial career. Only downside i have with this game is that Rafa bagged me out :(

Got sacked form Tenerife :f_steam: Now i'm with Elche and had an English tour before the season. Lost to Liverpool 3-1 which is a great effort, lost 5-2 to Fulham but their last 3 came in the 85th onwards and lost 1-0 to a star studded Bolton (Somehow they have some big names). I was proud.

Got some young French talent in the window, they were all available as their contracts were expiring so i landed some big-uns.

      My Team 1st Season:

      Reina

      Warnock - Carra - Agger - Rafinha

      Downing - Mascherano - Alonso - Gerrard

                  Baptista

                  Torres

Subs:  Cavialeri, Skrtel, Onewyu, Babel, Kuyt

Keane is injured btw and my signings were these:

      Stephen Warnock (4m)
      Steven Defour (4m)
      Rafinha (12m)
      Bojan (Loan)
      Stewart Downing (12m)
      Oguchi Onewyu (2m)
      Julio Baptista (Loan)

Im 5th in the league sadly but im top of the my CL group with 12 points out 12, Just beat Everton 3-1 in the Carling Cup but lost to Chelsea 1-0 in the prem, Fat Frank getting the goal for them. Julio Baptista is proving to be an amazing signing getting loads of goals and assists, Onewyu is proving to be an amazing backup, Defour is the biggest flopn ever and the fans hate him, Rafinha has been nothing short of magical, I terminated Bojan's loan and Downing is playing average. Torres and Gerrard are playing amsxing though, Torres has like 17 in 18 and a few assists and Gerrard has around 11 goals and 14 assists. So all is good i just hope i can improve my league position but there's still a long way to go until the end of the season.

I started at Blackburn, took them to the Euro Cup and asked for more tranfer money, gave them the ultimatum and got the sack.

Next up, I signed for Valencia. Came second in my first season behind Real by one point. The next season I won but I bought Diego on a free and he became world player of the year 2 seasons in a row averaging 8.1 over 3 seasons :o

My third season and I had secured the signing of Balotelli on a free, Mertesacker on a free, Casillas for 5 million (bargain!) and Messi for 28 million (pounds this is).

I still had a left back, left wing and centre mid problem. I needed more cash so I asked for more and again the ultimatum (the club was bloody loaded) and then again got sacked.

Now I'm at Milan and after 30 games I'm 25-2-3 and 4 points clear at the top. I have about 7 centre mid's all good enogh to play but because Alonso and Montolivo are injured every bloody second and then Lyberopoulous (fake wonderkid) gets a few niggles I'm forced to put 17 year olds out. Fortunately that 80% of Milan's youngsters are guns I can handle it.

Now I'll go show up Rafa and show him how its done.

Ah yes, my team (largely inherited by Tony Adams):

                                        Ustari

        Corluka          Zapata             Kompany            Jaffre

                          Montollivo            Alonso

Di Gennaro            Mati Fernandez            Carlos Eduardo

                                      Adams

Subs: Joe Cole, Obafemi Martins, Connsoni, Lyberopoulous, Johnsen, Bruno Alfano, Gabby Millito.

I have brought in Cole and Alfano on loan as i only had one one winger. I bought Mati Fernandez because every team of mine has to have him. Adams was a 8 mill signing from Liverpool, absolute gun kid with strong two feet, doesnt miss a chance in the box and is only 19. Connsoni is a starlet centre mid.

On my radar is wingers. Bloody Adams used only Eduardo so i brought Di Gennaro up from the reserves and the two loanees.

Im glad we share a liking for Mati. All you need now is to sign Higuain and Pato and you will have my team :P. Im onto 09 now, well getting full game on monday. But here is my 08 team

                                                                       Ochoa

      Alves                                      Veloso                           Ramos                                    Vidal

Ronaldo (sorry :P)                 Kruger(generic WK)            Lulinha                                 Fernandez

                                                    Pato                              Vela

However, no matter all the success i have had, none of this felt as good as this:

I had one better, they got docked 15 points and got relegated :lmao:

I just finished the season with Milan and it automatically said my expectation was to win the Serie A, they would give me 34.5 million pounds to spend with a 3 million pound wage bill. Initially i was very much ok with it but for some reason i never got the money nor the wage bill, not happy! :( I had to sell to buy but fortunately i picked up 2 very good wingers on free transfers (Ben Arfa and a generic).

On a lighter note, i'm ranked the 5th best ever Brazilian manager as i always put my nationality as Brazil. This was after winning Serie A, the Champions League (came back from 2-0 down to Arsenal to equalise all after 35 minutes) the Super Cup by beating Bayern in a penalty shoot out and the Italian Cup against Palermo in a shoot out also.

What year were you in before you switched to 09? If I add all my careers together it'd be 2036 :o

My Milan one though is 2017.

Its definately 'I'm now a football manager expert.' Usually is once you hit 10 days playing time on one career.

Had to uninstall FM09 the other day and now for some reason won't reinstall so I've gone back to 08.

I reckon it's one of the best footy managers, probably better than 09 an all.

      I'd have to agree.
08 I think is marginally better than 09. Just don't like the feel of the new one..

You lot kidding? It doesnt take 40 shots to score in this. Much more realistic game play but yeah of course, some annoying glitches.
