KENNY DALGLISH TRACKS £10M KEVIN DOYLE

KENNY DALGLISH is considering a shock £10m move for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

The Liverpool boss sent a scout to watch Doyle (left) in action for Wolves yesterday against Fulham – and the 27-year-old impressed with a smart opening goal in his side’s 2-0 win.

Dalglish had been linked earlier this summer with a move for Doyle’s international pal Shane Long before his switch to West Brom.

Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli is also keen to bring Doyle to Anfield. He wanted to take him to Tottenham during his time at White Hart Lane.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will want to hang on to Doyle as he has played a key role in their 100 per cent start to the season.

But Dalglish has been backed so far in the transfer market by Liverpool’s American owners and if he is determined to land the Irishman his financial muscle may be too much for Wolves to fend off.

The Reds boss has some top attacking talent in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

But with David Ngog third in the pecking order, an insider last night claimed that he was eager to bring in one more striker before the window shut – and that Doyle was his top target.

I've always liked him. Think he'd be a good option off the bench or just to do a job for us.

FFS, scores a goal and all of a sudden we are interested? Journalism is sh*te in this country, they could at least have said we're after the winger Jarvis ;)

      He's 27 and not even English :P

Decent player, doesn't score nearly enough goals though, my mate was his coach for a few years before he moved to Reading say he had a super attitude is not surprised how well he has done

Would be happy if we signed Doyle. Better option than useless Ngog coming off the bench.

      Always been a fan.

Doyle will not come though, no way at 27 he is going to move to a club to sit on the bench, you can take that from me he just wants to play

Cant see him leaving Wolves for us to play a role on the bench. He is getting his game week in week out.
Just seen he was 27 thought he was only 24-25.For 10 million I would throw a cheeky bid at city for Johnson.

He actually a lot better than the last one Mac, his work rate is exceptional only problem his goal return is pretty poor

His job is putting the ball in the back of the net.

Personally, I think that Robbie Keane's work rate was also exceptional ...

I don't Mac I'm Irish and have been watching both players for quiet a long time, your the first person I've heard say Keanes work rate is exceptional, that has something he has never been praised for in Ireland.

Doyle on the other hand it is seen as one of the strong points of his game

TDI Doyle goal record is something like 1 in 3 similar to Carrolls

You said it was poor, 1/3 is not a bad return.  However I just checked his stats - 1/3 for Reading at Championship level, only 1/4 for Wolves though.  Not bad, but not good enough for us, especially at 27 (28 in September).

As for Carroll, let's not get into that here, but his stats for Newcastle is 0.3875 (better than 3/8) not bad considering he is only 22.  He scored exactly 1/2 last year in the PL.

Carroll record is 1/3 but we won't get into that here, it is the wrong thread. I think the lad would be a decent signing for 5 million and could be a decent foil for Suarez but I'm not stupid enough to believe Wolves would sell him for that and think we would be better looking elsewhere for value for money

      What? Overrated and sh*t!!

The only decent striker Ireland have had was Scouse.

And please don't mention yard dog's Cascarino or Quinn.

So you don't think Robbie Keane was decent in his prime?

That Shane Long isn't decent when I think it's clear to see he will do a great job at WBA.

      Also scored ;)

Watched him play for Ireland tones of times, quality player but not as good as Shane Long, we missed out there IMO.
