Who cares about the League Cup?

For the team right now, with regards to where we sit in the league and that loss to Bolton and draw at home to Stoke, reaching the final will boost team confidence and morale no end. Therefore I think it's very important right now and giving the players a chance to play at Wembley will be great for them.

Bingo, well said burnzy. A cup will give our team confidence going in to the second half of the season. That belief can give us points we may not have won if Bellers hadn't scored the goal to tie it up.

Right on! I think if you are a great competitive team you should care as much for the league cup than the champions league. It is the "no class" teams that are obsessed with the big trophies and don't care about the rest.

I'm always a little disappointed with the way this trophy is denigrated by some fans and the media.

This trophy if we do what we should will mean just as much as any other we have ever won to me.

Something I just noticed here... the Merseyside Derby was scheduled to 25 February... the Carling Cup final will be on 26 February... surely the derby will have to be re-scheduled then, no idea to when though

there can't be time for it in Feb, I wonder when it will happen...?

I care about the League Cup - it's another trophy to be won, it's a day out for the fans who get tickets, plus cup success helps with confidence and creating a winning mentality.

Every team seems to have cared about the league cup this season and it has been the best league cup campaign for a long time because of it.  There is no such thing as a weaker side anymore these days, squads are that strong now and all the premiership sides were up for it but they were not as hungry as King Kenny and the Redmen you could see how much it meant to King Kenny at Man City the atmosphere at that game was compared to the big Champions league nights at Anfield so that shows how much it meant to us fans who gives a f**ck if there is no money in it we're off to Wembley and that's what matters!!

I watched LFC TV yesterday re-run of the treble 2001 season. What was the catalyst and the drive for such a great season......winning the good old league cup, the players got hungry and greedy for success and nothing was going to stop them.
If we beat Cardiff it could have the same impact, winning a trophy is the best way to get confidence and wake a few people up. It is crucial to win.

So much b*llocks on here about the value of this cup.In the current climate of pressure to demonstrate success within clubs.Any club working within reasonable financial constraints,would see an automatic entry into European competition,as a benefit to their club.We need European involvement,next season,as a minimum,let's win the f*cker,achieve 4th place or above,and then let Cardiff get into the Europa league.
