Spain have been struggling to create chances this tournament.

I just hope they come away win the much needed win to defend their title as it would be awesome to see a team defend their title for the first time in history and also being the first team to win three major tournaments in a row.

Uruguay won the Football Olympics in 1924, 19228 (considered by Fifa as the world championship of the times)and WC in  1930, all 3 in a row. Argentina won 3 Copas in a row...

Ah my mistake then. I thought I heard the commentator say that the other day but then again, all the commentators in the Euros are retarded.

Unless he meant between World Cup and Euros.

Brazil have reached 5 major finals in a row.

World Cup Final 1994 - won
Copa America Final 1995 - lost
Copa America Final 1997 - won
World Cup Final 1998 - lost
Copa America Final 1999 - won

Also, Brazil won the Copa America in 1997 and 1999, and reached the World Cup Final in 1998.
Brazil won WC in 94, reached the final of the Copa in 95, won the copa in 97, WC final in 98, won copa in 99, won the WC in 2002. BUT never 3 in a row.

Forgot Uruguay won Copa in 23, 24 and Olympics in 24, thats also 3

Yeah .. I watched David Silva being called David Villa like three times in the same game.

Then I heard the same commentator saying Cassano scored the first goal for Italy in the tournament when it was Di Natale who scored.

BTW, espnstar says this again -_-

"Now it has taken them to the brink of history as the only side to win three major international tournaments on the trot."

I wouldn't class the Olympics as a major international football tournament, and winning 3 Copas in a row isn't winning 3 tournaments on the trot, unless they won the World Cup in between.

*(Unless this was pre world cup?)

Yep, pre WC, organized by fifa and recognized by them as world championships (not to be mistaken with Fifa World Cup TM), hence the four stars in uruguays badge.

Those 2 olympics planted the seed for the Fifa World cup, and one of the reasons it was held in Uruguay was the countries sucess in the Olympic games. In fact, Uruguay declined to play in 34 and 38, and returned in 1950 to win again the WC. IN 1954, we lost our first ever WC match in the semis on overtime against Puskas Hungary (in what was at the time called the greatest match of all time).

Then we hit rock bottom when we started exporting players.

Sorry, if im going off topic, i love footballing history! ;D

      Poll any one ?

The reference to Spain winning and being the first team to win 3 successive major tournaments was refering to European teams.

He also called Spain Barcelona in the same game as well. I'm pretty sure it was one if the ITV commentators just not sure which one.

On tonights game I'm not sure who I'd like to win but just hope for a good final.

Actually .. I'm not sure who is going to win but I want Spain to.

Italy have been playing neat football while Spain has been a bit like Barcelona and ourselves last season - possession, possession, hardly creating enough, let alone scoring.

But as always, the better team does not always win.
