I wouldn't class the Olympics as a major international football tournament, and winning 3 Copas in a row isn't winning 3 tournaments on the trot, unless they won the World Cup in between.
*(Unless this was pre world cup?)
Yep, pre WC, organized by fifa and recognized by them as world championships (not to be mistaken with Fifa World Cup TM), hence the four stars in uruguays badge.
Those 2 olympics planted the seed for the Fifa World cup, and one of the reasons it was held in Uruguay was the countries sucess in the Olympic games. In fact, Uruguay declined to play in 34 and 38, and returned in 1950 to win again the WC. IN 1954, we lost our first ever WC match in the semis on overtime against Puskas Hungary (in what was at the time called the greatest match of all time).
Then we hit rock bottom when we started exporting players.
Sorry, if im going off topic, i love footballing history!
