I'm sure he knows how to handle it.

      Just seen this.
      :D

      I think you'll find that's a daytime photo.
      Top marks for effort though.

Hope we don't sign him, I really don't

If we sign a player on form and they turn out to be a dud, how's it gonna turn out if we sign a player in a slump past his shelf life?

Wages are ridic, will just play a couple of games, get a red card on his debut and be loaned out a season later

We should go young and look abroad, sureley we have enough homegrown players, can anyone clear that up?

As for Demba Ba, West Ham didn't wanna sign a contract extension cos he was injury prone, he'll burn out soon enough

      After all, form is temporary

And I've seen enough business done with Newcastle this decade

Although we have them to thank for Enrique, I suppose that's something

Apparently Villa are looking to offload the inept Bent once again and the Mirror think we are possibly in for him.

For all that i reckon he is over rated, maybe, just maybe for a dirt cheap price (highly unlikely) or for a loan till the end of the season he might actually be a viable option.

Got some decent qualities if he can apply himself.

      Tough one.

      thoughts?

Takes, on average, the least touches in the league per game. Or at least that was the case a year ago.

He'd either have to be so phenomenally good off the ball that wouldn't matter, or would look sh*te in a team trying to play possession football.

Good player but not for us. Gary Hooper would be a better option, for the record I've been saying this since before it was fashionable ;)

I agree his record is decent, but why would you want Bent leading the line and not Luis. He offers nothing outside of leading the line on the shoulder, his link up play is average and anything beyond that is poor. Would prefer to see Gerrard used as a false 9, Yesil leading the line and given time to develop or any other system than stoop to the level that is Bent. He's simply not good enough for a team with any aspirations above survival. He'll get goals but that's all he will get and although you'll counter with that's what we lack, the amount the team would have to feed him simply doesn't justify having to watch us play as team Darren Bent, not for me thank you.

He has zero to his game other than pace and finishing.

      Which is what we need?

If they get rid for dirt cheap I'd snap him up. Long time fan. Exactly what we need. How many times do we get the ball in the box and no one is there.

However I think when he went to Sunderland his chances of going to a big club ended. He'd be on high wages and his fee will be crazy.

      Agree on your post.
He is the type of player we need in the squad at the very least.
Don't think he is great but in terms of what we are lacking and what may well be available, I actually think he could flourish if given a 6 month loan to see how he does.
Only 28 and needs to play regularly and fully believe he would be delighted to have the opportunity to have a bash at Anfield.
      Think this one could happen.

Saw a stat there from a Villa match not so long ago. He completed 5 passes in the whole game. Don't think he'd fit in well here!

You mean a pure and simple striker who just sits in the box when in the opposition half and hangs off the defence when looking to build attacks is not what we need and won't fit in?

Sounds like the perfect style of striker who would flourish in a team who creates a billion chances and don't take them.

More than anything, I can't be doing with the sh*t, 'Liverpool sign Bent' joke that flies around every transfer window.

Bent is a very good striker with an excellent goalscoring record so definitely worth a look and I know he gets labelled as one dimensional but his movement in and around the penalty area is excellent and if the 'one dimension' he has is one we are sorely lacking then he should be an option for the next window.

Also I love when we get linked with him as it seems to send some people a bit crazy ;D

He's about 10yrs too old for our recruitment policy, would cost too much with no sell on value.  I'd rather have Andy Carroll back.

If that's even a possibility then i would agree (Carroll coming back and playing).

Seems a bridge has been burnt there though which is a massive shame.

I agree mate.  My point really was they are very similar players so why spend money on Bent when we already have Andy.
