      Surely that wouldn't be possible.

Demba Ba has a release clause, as soon as they bid that amount, Newcastle are forced to accept it. They can't delay the transfer, they have to accept due to the release clause.

I think Shabs meant until Chelsea have cover they wont release Sturridge

Once a club triggers a release clause the player and he bidding club start a process of terms if they fail to agree terms he player stays at his current club.

Or could it be down to those who's responsibility it's it to ensure this deal goes through are still in holiday mode?.

Achilles heel for this club is we don't have someone competent or responsible enough to make sure this club does not suffer in the transfer dealings.

Or it could be down to the fact that the transfer window doesn't open until the 2nd and not today???

I would wager this one will be announced tomorrow. My real worry/wonder is when any other players might be coming in. Would have been nice to have everyone sorted this first week. Hope it doesn't drag on.

Don't forget, clubs from whom we are trying to sign players will normally want to line up a replacement - very few do what we did with AC.
We will all have to be patient.  I suspect that the Sturridge deal might not be announced until Chelsea have a replacement, be it Ba or someone else.  Its basically a player 'merry go round' so we'll just have to be patient, hope to get our targets, and to sell\release players who no longer figure in BR's plans. I'd like it all done tomorrow but I don't think thats going to happen.

Why would Chelsea need a replacement? To keep that spot on the bench warm? :)

Seeing on Twitter this will be announced tomorrow and he will watch the Sunderland match.

I wonder if the paperwork has been done and he has signed, would it be possible that we get a surprise against Sunderland and see the lad run out with the team. I recall a time when we signed Frank Lock and John Evans from Charlton and the first we knew about it was when the team was announced over the club tannoy system. For those who would like to know it was boxing day 1953.

Ow, I love transfer silly season..!

Apparently he will be announced at half time tonight - which I have heard a few times before, yet never seen... Would be very suprised if this is the case. With regards to him playing, could this actually happen?

      Just a curiosity !!
At what time his registration has to be signed and accepted by the FA , so he then can be included in today's game squad?

Not waiting for this to happen ^^^  But its just  my curiosity

I'm sure (but don't quote me on this) that a player must have been registered by the club 24 hours before a match to be eligible to play.

haha i remember when people genuinely thought mata would play half for valencia in that pre season friendly then we'd announce him as a signing at half time and he'd play for us second half.

think/hope we'll announce the signing before the game but who knows.

I'd imagine we'd either announce him before 5pm or we'll announce him tomorrow.

      Haha I like it!
      .

Also for those on this board who don't want him, just get really excited about him potentially signing, continually post in this thread about how good our team will be with him etc. get this thread up to 100+ pages and then we won't sign him ;P
