LIVERPOOL TO MAKE £12m BID FOR SALAH
      SportingPreview.com: 14 December 2013

Liverpool are to make a £12million bid for Mohamed Salah after manager Brendan Rodgers made a personal check on the Basle winger.

The Anfield club have been trailing the Egyptian for over six months and Rodgers flew to Germany on Wednesday to watch the the 21-year-old in action for himself in the Champions League against Schalke.

Salah had a reasonable game but his side were reduced to ten men just half an hour into the game and lost 2-0 and so went out of the competition.

Basle are reportedly now ready to sell their prized asset and want around £15m for a player who has been dubbed 'the Egyptian Messi' following his 17 goals in 26 internationals.

Tottenham have also monitored Salah's progress, notably watching him score against Chelsea in the Champions League home and away.

He also scored against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals last season, and against Spurs in the last eight and other European sides are also keen with Galatasaray and Monaco among them.

However, Liverpool is an appealing option for Salah and reports indicate that Rodgers is likely to get his man.

Haven't seen much news on Konoplyanka recently.... seems to have died down, that one.

Too bad as I think he's a cracking player, would be ready to go right now and wouldn't be absurdly expensive.

      Yep.

I've seen quite a bit of talk of us signing Salah.

I haven't seen much of him to be honest Brian but I'm sure an 'expert' will be along to say how good, or otherwise, he is. :D

There are reports of BR making a ''personal check'' on the player - whatever that means.

I saw him play well for Basel against Chelsea, he got the winner, but i have no idea anything else about him.

£12m is cheap. Within Daniel Sturridge's and Mamadou Sakho's price tag.

      3. Could we get him without Spuds offering a similar fee but bigger wages?

He'll probably sit on the bench with our other signings this season!

In all seriousness though it's an area we need to improve in. No idea about the lad but if BR thinks he's good enough then that's enough for me.

Maybe the Spuds are out of the equation now with a few staff no longer with us, according to my own conspiracy theory.

If that was Rodgers watching Schalke vs Basel, he was there monitoring the performance of this guy, not Draxler. Shame, because a player like Draxler would make such an impact here

I've only watched him in the Europa League and Champions League in the last few seasons, but he's impressed me hugely every time I've seen him. My Swiss mate says that he wouldn't be great for us, so I trust his opinion on him more than my own. Based purely on what I've seen however, I would welcome Salah at Anfield.

As much as I admire Draxler, yes, that's my suspicion too.

I watched the Chelsea game shown and the fella was the best player on the park. 12 mill looks like he's worth a go to me.

Not sure he's what we need.

Would much rather see Rodgers try and fix our Achilles heel. Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Citeh and Chelsea all have better midfield's than us and if top 4 is serious Brendan can't overlook it.

I think you are spot on. We need to prioritize our spending and while another couple of Centre backs :)  and a few wingers might be nice we need to fix what's broken first.

      Really?

You've just pointed out he will be sitting on the bench with all of BRs other signings then in the same breath implied faith in his judgment to sign players.

On Salah don't know much about the lad but it's not really hard to improve on our current wide positions.

We can definitely do with a wide attacking player. From the little I have seen of him over the last year and a half he would be an improvement over what we have in that department. And £12m doesn't seem to be outrageous.

On the other hand, we need to be smart with the spending and I think a top notch midfielder or two needs to be the immediate priority.

Really Dado? Surely the "in all seriousness" comment showed I was joking.
