It's like you said though Si...if we spent an average on say £8 million for each player 1/2 this forum would literally implode before they had ever kicked a ball.
If however:
We spend £30 million on a player and he does not hit the ground running by the end of the 1st month of league action more than likely 1/2 this forum will implode for overspending on sh*t.
Curiously both groups will contain some of the exact same posters.
bi*ch and moan for wasting money on Lovren & Sahko and point to Huth at Leicester City and say "Fantastic player for only £5 million...those same people would have sh*t themselves and cursed to high heaven if we had signed Huth from Stoke citing lack of ambition.
I disagree mate, people only moan when the players aren't good enough. I don't remember anyone moaning when we bought Gomez or Ings or more recently Grujic.
They may well moan if the players prove not to be good enough, but people moan at the quality of players bought not because they are cheap.
Coutinho cost us £8million or so, hear anyone complaining about us buying him?
Find me a Lionel Messi for under £10million and I don't think you would get many people moaning about his price either.
If anything people tend to moan when we pay over the odds for very average players, not when we buy good players cheap.
If you expect people to jump up and down with excitement when a Shane Long is bought that is another matter. We have all seen him play, know his limitations and know he is not the answer to our prayers. Which is very different to buying a top quality player for a similar price if we could get one.
Fill your squad with mediocre players and then you find you have no room left to buy the quality you need to progress.
