      Wireless internet connection problem
      Jun 20, 2008 12:05:47 pm
Hope there's someone who has had this problem in the past that can shed some light on mine:

I recently changed over to wireless connection & got a Netgear router(WGR614) from my IP. I also bought a usb wireless connector, Netgear(WG111v2).

Installation went fine but most times that I am online my internet connection will drop of for a second or two and then reconnect.

Very frustrating when wanting to download something or do some gaming.

      Any thoughts guys?

Is the internet connection dropping out or the wireless connection?

You should be able to check by comparing the connection bitrate using your wireless router set up page before and after your 'connection' drops.

If its a different figure - you probably need your IP to fix your attenuation.  If its not then I would disconnect, delete your wireless access settings in Windows and re-connect as if you found it all over again.

I had a similar problem when I replace my ISP's router with a 806.11n router.

Where is your router in relation to your PS3?? I had this as my signal kept changing to around 90% to 70% so it used to drop, if its a major issue you can buy powerlines which you plug one direct from the socket into the router then the other from the sockect direct into the PS3 :D , It gives you the stability of a wired connect as your always connected but without the wires from the router to the PS3, they work excellent......

Thanks guys I think problem solved.

Netgear's UI had 2 settings under security. 1 of these kept losing me my connection, the other which I have now selected has given me no problems.

Must be something to do with firewall settings(?)

I had no problems with the PS3 internet stability, it was only PC.

I got a Belkin N Wireless Router today and I can't seem to get it to connect to my wired router. I'm using cable internet so I made sure I got one that supports that but when I plug my router into it the router light flashes yellow on it. Could anyone lend a hand?

EDIT: Got that working now, but It won't let me install it on my Mac. Says I can't do it in DOS mode or something or other.

Got it working now RK. Just did a search for wireless and my router came up. Didn't bother installing it.

Got one of those routers myself.  A nightmare in N mode though as it interferes with video senders, wireless landline handsets etc.
