You don't sit and watch Monaco for it's overtaking opportunities. There is only one real overtaking spot, at the chicane. But there's not a lot they can really do with the circuit layout, it's city centre street furniture, it is what it is. It will never be scrapped.
Leclerc said he hit the wall in an earlier qualifying lap but he got away with it, so bizarrely he wanted to have another go at it late in the session. Monaco might be a great place to gamble in a casino, but if you want to gamble on hitting a tyre barrier, the tyre barrier will usually win. Without him there, all Verstappen had to do was get to the first corner first, then keep it out of the wall to win, which is what he did.
Last time it was there, there was 1 retirement but Hamilton won, so it wasn't boring. This year, there was 2 retirements but Hamilton didn't win, so it was boring. If all the tracks were scrapped just because Hamilton didn't win the last time he turned up, well, there wouldn't be much of a calendar left.
