What I loved most about tonight's performance was that it seemed like the summer break never happened and we just carried on from the form we were in at the end of last season. Hopefully the Spurs game was just a blip and this performance was a better representation of where the team's at right now. It's amazing the lift a win like that can give you after a disappointing loss days earlier. The optimism on this site right now is almost tangible!

Waiting to see it on MOTD.  Great result, well chuffed with that.  And as a little appetiser, guess who's on MOTD first?  Burnley's first home victory of the season  ;D

Off topic, but OMG, what a goal by Robbie Blake of Burnley  :lmao:

      Much better.

We we're lethal in attack, and we bullied them about the midfield.

Haven't seen the game or anything, but looking at the scoreline what can I suggest? A thumping victory for the redmen! :D

We've got a fantastic win under our belts and comparing results with last season, we are certainly 2 points ahead. I was chuffed.. I thought we were just back it in.. until I scrolled down halfway the thread in page 1, and Burnley won as well!

Made my day I'm smsing my manc mates at 630AM in the morning and telling them how the mancs are going to flop! Get in! ;)

      Benitez post match

      On Johnson

"I think we were looking for a player with quality going forward. He created a lot of chances, was a threat and also scored a goal. Our idea was to improve and have more quality in the wide areas and he showed that tonight.

"The first goal was important and the second was a big difference because they had to go forward, we had more space. We were patient, played well on the ball and took our chances."

      On Lucas Leiva

"Lucas is a player with experience but he's still young. I think you could see today, including the experts on TV, that he's a very good player. Hopefully now they won't see him as a target because he's a very good lad, a good professional and a very good player."

      On Ayala

"Ayala is young and it was more or less his first official game," he said. "He was a little bit nervous but in the end he was very good. He has to work, have more games and experience."

      On the injury/stitches to Torres

Benitez quipped: "We are at the top of the table now with 23 stitches. Carra, Torres and Skrtel. I haven't seen how many Torres has but I can guarantee you it's about 10."

On a optimistic note, after 2 games, we aren't too bad. We lost to Tot, but at least they are a strong team and seem to be on fire atm, and we come back convincingly in the 2nd game.
While MU won only 1-0 at home, and lost to Burnley   :lmao:

      BURNLEY-BURNLEY-BURNLEY.

That made my entire day.  I wonder who good ole' "Booze Hound" Fergie is blaming for the loss?  Fans, Refs, Weather?????

It seems fitting to remember the comments Fergie made when he said he expects his goal output to exceed from the 08-09 season.

      We were excellent today.

We linked up well from the midfield to the forwards and as Rafa said it was a great help getting an eary goal and having them attack us hence creating space. I think Gerrard and Torres still have a lot of work to do in terms of sharpness but its still early doors in the season.

Special mention goes to Lucas and Mascherano both ran their socks off and won numerous tackles in the engie room. Lucas showed that he has learnt and built upon from last year he was much more composed on the ball and threw himself into tackles with full commitment. Masch was alos immense glimpses of the monster coming back to his best.

Well done to Carra and Ayala for keeping a clean sheet impressed with Ayala as he was able to respond to such a physical forward line.

Its good to see us on the board roll on to Villa.

      Just seen MOTD, great performance.

Johnson was bloody excellent and Gerrard's take and close control to set up Dirk's goal was just world class.

      Bring on Villa!!

MOTD highlights were very good.  Some great moves, Stevie's dink in to set up Dirk's goal was much more like it.  Everyone looked happier I thought from the brief bits I saw, loved Johnson's goal and positive play for his near miss, he looked liked he was interacting with Dirk well tonight as well.  Near miss by Insua and some great saves by Pepe.  All in, that was much better.

Well said Lucas came in for a hell of a lot of stick on here over the summer but he is obviously the type of player who is only going to mature into a great player! keep the faith in him & we may have plenty of versatility & options in the middle with masch, gerrard, spearring, lucas, aquilina & benayoun!!!

Are you sticking with Liverpool to win the title?
