The best game that I've been to was definitely the League Cup semi final v. City the other year at Anfield. That was a top atmosphere! Great feeling to know we were going to Wembley for the first time in years. Was my first real experience of a game like that too.
In the car on the way home that night booking flights to London from Edinburgh on our phones for the final even though we didn't have tickets yet, then the nervous wait to find out if we were lucky in the ballot. I got lucky but one of my other mates didn't but he came with us anyway.
The final was the best day of my life. Getting the red eye flight to London, making our way into the city and when we stepped out of the tube station on Baker Street with all the hundreds of reds blocking up the street, we could hear nothing but Liverpool songs. Was amazing!
Then back onto the tube and the whole train was rocking with reds fans, singing all the classics as well as the old ones.
Will never forget walking up to Wembley and going up the escalators to my seat, then using my teeth to cut the roll of string to tie my banner onto the railings at the bottom of the top tier.
As for the game, it was a complete roller coaster of emotions. When Kuyt scored in extra time I actually cried a bit hahaha, then when we missed the first two penalties I pretty much just thought it was over. When Anthony Gerrard missed at the end it was the most insane feeling which I don't think can ever be replicated in any other way.
The day ended pretty funny, we arranged to meet up at a pub near Baker Street after the game and then we were all going to go to the bus station to catch the overnight one home. Our mate who didn't get a ticket was missing and we couldn't get hold of him on his phone. We started to worry a bit because he had our bus tickets and we didn't really want to be stranded in London overnight...
We decided to make our way to the station anyway and by some miracle our mate stumbled up the street more pissed than I've ever seen anyone 3 minutes before the bus was due to leave, bus tickets in hand "alright boys!" hahaha turns out he'd passed out in an alleyway in London somewhere then woke up 10 minutes ago, grabbed a taxi and just managed to make it on time...
Anyway, moral of the story is to never take the overnight bus from London to Edinburgh. It's the worst hell imaginable. Although it would have been a lot worse if we hadn't have won the game... I pretty much smiled all the way home haha
So I suppose that was two games, but they were kind of one experience for me. The semi final was a better atmosphere but the final was an amazing day. They aren't classic games or anything but for me it was amazing.
