Pre Match: Atletico Madrid v Liverpool (EL Semi Final 1st Leg)
      Apr 17, 2010 06:02:27 pm
      Thursday 22nd April 2010 - 8.05pm, Madrid

UEFA to decide on Monday whether to call off this week's European ties - including our trip to Atletico.

Would certainly give Torres time to get fully fit.

Although I sincerely hope the games are going ahead.

Agreed, Really looking forward to this one. Cant see Nando being risked for this one, we're going to be playing defensively, and making Torres run after long balls all match is a bad idea!

Was wondering if we had made any contingency plans for this game JD.

If we had to go by bus it would have been tight getting there for Thursday and we would have to leave more or less straight after the West Ham game.

It makes sense to decide sooner rather than later.

I hope to god that they call off the games. Playing 3 days after the West Ham game and having a half-fit Torres isn't exactly our game plan, so it'll give us more time to rest and get Torres fit.

Going to Madrid by bus is pretty tough and it is really not a good option.
I hope we don't do this because it would give us less chance to recuperate and to play to our full potential.

That's what I meant mate, it's way too tight a timeframe and hardly a comfortable way to travel with a game either side of the trip.

I don't think European Football will start for about 2 weeks and it could be longer. The Volcano is still spewing out ash, I just went on the news and the airports are closed for at least 24 hours and longer while the ash keeps spewing out.

Same as JD unless they drive.  Problem with making a decision on Monday is that the wind direction can change so we could go ahead and play then get stuck out there.

Ok the players would get back somehow but the fans will be stranded like so many other travellers are now.

The way this volcano is going these problems could last for months.

      Road trip!

It's pretty funny to see these kind of events. I would personally love the games to go on but at least it'll give Nando (and the squad) more rest time.

What would it be postponed to? Next week? Eh, Okay, that's cool. Torres has a bomb in the Volcano setting it off so he gets more time to heal. HAHAHAHA!

If the match was postponed I wonder how that would affect the 2nd leg at Anfield,is it possible that we would play the Anfield match first and then at Athletico Madrid second.I would be interested to hear how this will affect us.

      No point delaying it.

We'd have to play the same amount of games in a shorter time frame and that could be worse for the squad just because of a little break.

That would be so BS if that happened. That's a disadvantage to Liverpool imo. But it's travelling either way that's a problem I think.

I don't think they can do that.

We've been given the advantage of having the home leg last (I assume this means we've earned it somehow), I doubt they can just change it now.

Yeah the draw results indicated we have the second leg at home. And if we get to the final we will be the home team.

Sorry to pick that out but I completely disagree. My missus is stranded out in Barcelona and I'm not finding it funny at the moment!

Back on topic, can't see us going by road or ferry. If the airspace isn't clear then it'll be cancelled IMO.

Hope it's sorted soon Chats mate. :)

I can't see us going down the coach trip route. Although the authorities should really be deciding on this a little earlier. Gives the clubs, and fans, more time to get their plans sorted.

Just read that the Champions League ties are on this week. Barca are going to Milan by road and Lyon are going to Munich by road too.
