      Brad Jones (Middlesbrough)
      Aug 04, 2010 04:01:11 pm
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is making a shock move for Middlesbrough's Australia World Cup keeper Brad Jones - to put pressure on Pepe Reina.

The Kop chief has made an official inquiry about Jones's availability and would like him to join as soon as possible as he covers his Spanish number one.

Jones is interested in the move and knows that Hodgson is a long-term fan because he tried to take him to Fulham earlier in the summer.

Hodgson faces a fight with Boro over the capture as Gordon Strachan wants to keep him despite the local fans turning on him during last season.

      Do we really need him?

Depends on what Cav's plans are for his immediate future to be honest, I'd take him but only if Cav was on his way.

If he came he'd be behind Gulacsi IMO, much better prospect, I ask you picking up players from Boro' the mind boggles.

We should have picked up a player from 'Boro in January - Adam Johnson, but Purslow said no value in the January window.... but Man City picked him up for a relative pittance.

Why on earth do we want this player?
He's not going to play any part whatsoever
Just a waste of money IMO

      I suppose he's for home-grown value.
And selling Cav and buying him will bring a small profit.

Would he qualify for "home grown" through age/time here cos he's an Aussie is'nt he?

Any player that has come through the club academy from a young age is classed as home grown regardless of nationality.

Haven't been this excited about a signing since we were linked with Adam Federichi six months ago!!

      Same.

I'd take him but only if Cav is on his way out. Don't see the point otherwise.

Yeah I saw this, why are we bidding for keepers, we need to strengthen elsewhere.

Brad Jones is a very average goalkeeper, i don't want him and we don't at all need him, selling Cavalieri and buying Jones would be a big step back. Keep your head screwed on Roy!

I don't really have too much issue with this move, if your going to have a player in your 25 man squad who is unlikely to see a Premiership game unless Pepe  is hurt you might as well have him as one of the 8 homegrown players. I find it hard alone to make a opinion of Diego as he only played half a dozen games a year when we play all reserve and youth players.

We need a decent replacement for pepe if he gets injured. Whether Brad Jones is the answer i dont know. Cavalieri is not good enough.

Gulaschi is better than Jones this would be a joke of a signing and with Poulsen I hope to F**k Hodgson is not behind them.

Not sure of the reasoning behind looking for a new goalkeeper
