We're bringing in a keeper that contributes to the home grown quota and selling one that doesn't.

Exactly! And if we sell Cav for  similar price its a free Homegrown player!

its not a waste of money , especially if cava leaves for the same  or a little more ammount of money
he will be a V.good backup for pepe, and most important  qualifies as home grown

Can we not just wait until/if we get taken over?!
I've seen this guy make a few mistakes, and Cav has never made 1 (i don't think)
And i swear he's Australian so only if he's been at Boro for 3 years would he be HG
And + we've ot a thread for the 25 man squad and we don't neccessarily need another HG player

I think he is a good GK. Obviously, if Cav does leave, we will need a replacement so i can see some sense in bringing Jones in. But, if Cav doesn't leave, i can't see the sense in this other than him being home-grown. If Cav dosen't leave, then in some ways that would be a waste of £2.5m. I suppose Roy knows what he is doing though.

Makes less sense when you consider that Gulasci will be classed as home grown next season.

Good point. But is Gulasci up to it? Have only seen him feature in the Reserve team games so, to me, he is untested at the highest level.

Back to Brazil I reckon. He's said he's homesick a few times at the end of last season and this summer.

I was reading online the other day that Benfica are after him

Liverpool agree £2.5m fee for Jones

Liverpool have agreed on a £2.5 million fee to sign Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones, according to skysports.com

The 28-year-old has been under the radar of Reds boss Roy Hodgson as he seeks to bring in more competition for first choice keeper Pepe Reina.

An initial bid of £2 million was reportedly turned down by the Championship side but a fresh offer from Anfield is believed to have convinced the club to part ways with Jones.

Despite agreeing on the transfer fee, the deal is far from being completed as personal terms and the number of installments to be paid are yet to be ironed out.

I like the kid. Think it's a good signing and will be good for the future of the team, or if rein gets an injury!

Well lets look at the positives - one more home grown player, probably earn more money from the sale of Cav and we can afford one more foreign player in the quote which was wasted on our bench (Cav).

Hopefully Gulacsi gets more game time elsewhere and comes back and is ready to challenge Reina when Jones retires/goes somewhere else.

He has really good games, Jones. He had one against us not long ago, but he has some howlers. And often.

But in the end, he hasn't signed yet.

Obviously don't know much about football if you think he's the future of the team.

The guy calling the Liverpool game today (Jon Champion) was saying he was sitting with the Liverpool players who didn't make the squad for the game today so it looks like it is a done deal.

Yes I hard the same was watching the game on Fox Sports and the commentator made mention that he was spotted in the crowd amongst the players not selected in the squad i.e. Sotis, Aquilani and co.

Is it just me or does the Reina howler just bring more confusion and rumour into Brad Jones moving to LFC??
