Damien Comolli has made contact with Hamburg over the signing of highly rated attacker Eljero Elia and is hoping to negotiate a deal within the coming days. The Dutchman, who Liverpool have kept tabs on over the past few months, has been singled out due to his versatility; being able to play as both winger and striker.
The 23-year-old, who featured in the World Cup for Holland, is regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects and may attract the interest from a host of clubs including Juventus; who are reportedly readying a £15M bid.
However, sources claim that the Dutchman has his mind set on a move to Anfield, and with the January transfer window set to open today, the move could come a lot sooner than he thinks.
Any deal, though, would depend on whether Ryan Babel can be sold or offered as part of a deal in order to obtain his counterpart, who would cost around the £14M mark.

After having reported that the clubs were keeping an eye on Elia back in September, speculation surrounding the player have gathered pace. Talksport are adamant that a move for the player will go ahead; however, a move will depends on two factors.
The first factor is whether the club can negotiate the sale of Ryan Babel. And the second will depend on whether a prospective deal for Ashley Young goes through or not.
Mind you, Elia is fully capable to play as a striker and has been utilised in that position many times before. In an ideal world, we would be able to sign both Ashley Young and Eljero Elia, but giving our current situation, wishing for both players may be a cry to far.
