      Eljero Elia (Hamburg)
      Dec 23, 2010 10:34:25 am
I didnt see a thread about Elia, if their is srry must of overlooked it

      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/media-watch/elia-back-in-demand-at-anfield
Elia starred for the Netherlands at the World Cup in South Africa earlier on this year, alerting the Reds to his talent and availability for the first time.

Liverpool are currently in the process of whittling down a shortlist of around four players to give to new owners NESV, with a left winger a main priority for the Anfield club.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is well aware of Elia and new director of football strategy Damian Comolli feels he has a good working relationship with the Bundesliga club.

This working relationship could be the key to bringing the 23-year-old but there is likely to be a negotiation in price.

Comolli rates Elia at £3 million but Hamburg are likely to demand £5 million for his services - either way he will be a cheaper alternative than the likes of Eden hazard and Charles N'Zogbia.

One thing that could work in Liverpool's favour is the player's wish to leave the German side, although Juventus are also interested.

Liverpool's owners NESV have outlined an emphasis on youth in Hodgson's transfer dealings next month and in future transfer windows, which he has heeded by signing two 16-year-old talents today.

@ 5 million it would be a great buy

Here we go again, we get linked to him every transfer window.

Looks a good player at times but generally lacks end product. Not someone I'd be that excited about signing.

The Babel comparison is perfect, as well as the fact that he suffers from a lot of injuries.

Scored on the weekend and played well, but would have to show more before i would be excited about this. He did catch my eye a little while ago but shown little to nothing since.

Either way, i don't think he'll come here.

Liverpool to Make Eljero Elia Move
Posted on 01. Jan, 2011 by Dominic Campbell in News

Damien Comolli has made contact with Hamburg over the signing of highly rated attacker Eljero Elia and is hoping to negotiate a deal within the coming days. The Dutchman, who Liverpool have kept tabs on over the past few months, has been singled out due to his versatility; being able to play as both winger and striker.
The 23-year-old, who featured in the World Cup for Holland,  is regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects and may attract the interest from a host of clubs including Juventus; who are reportedly readying a £15M bid.
However, sources claim that the Dutchman has his mind set on a move to Anfield, and with the January transfer window set to open today, the move could come a lot sooner than he thinks.
Any deal, though, would depend on whether Ryan Babel can be sold or offered as part of a deal in order to obtain his counterpart, who would cost around the £14M mark.

After having reported that the clubs were keeping an eye on Elia back in September, speculation surrounding the player have gathered pace. Talksport are adamant that a move for the player will go ahead; however, a move will depends on two factors.
The first factor is whether the club can negotiate the sale of Ryan Babel. And the second will depend on whether a prospective deal for Ashley Young goes through or not.
Mind you, Elia is fully capable to play as a striker and has been utilised in that position many times before. In an ideal world, we would be able to sign both Ashley Young and Eljero Elia, but giving our current situation, wishing for both players may be a cry to far.

Swap deal thank you very much

Hm "Comolli rate Elia at 3m" and "he would cost 14".

One article must be wrong or it's not a bargain. :)

Though I'm not a fan of him (haven't seen enough to judge properly), I don't believe anyone would realistically value him at just £3m. There'd be no end of teams after him at that price.

Don't thinks so Corbs, Weren't Barca offering around that last summer but he didn't want to go there because he didn't think he'd get a game. We need to spend an extra couple of quid to get quality in. Nani was an unknown basically before utd splashed out £17m for him. That worked out in the end.
