Well I went last night for only the second time this season, and one or two things struck me which no doubt more regular match-goers will have been more aware of previously.
We were absolutely excellent from the first minute, and Suarez is electric up top. His movement off the ball is both incessant and very clever, he's on his bike time after time after time and always goes into little pockets where the defenders least want him to go. He's a lot quicker accross the ground than I thought he was, and was sensational last night and my man of the match. He's an absolute steal at 23 million quid, and those of us (well me really) who were unsure about him at first look couldn't have been more wrong if we'd tried. Great attitude, great ability, great player.
Glen Johnson is almost back to his very best. In this form he is a decent defender and a real weapon going forward. Can play in either full-back slot, and is a huge asset.
Jay Spearing is developing into a very decent midfielder. He's a ratter of the utmost tenacity, and gets about the pitch well as well as knocking a good ball.
Lucas was good last night, and that's something coming from me. More than once he hit perceptive passes which split their defence, and he defended well. No more to say really, if he played as well in every game as he did last night then people like me who don't rate him would have to admit they'd called it wrong. I remain to be convinced though that a team with genuine aspirations could include him as a regular starter.
Flanaghan is a good little defender. Very mature for his years, he reads it well, tucks in at the right times, doesn't dive in and is going to be a good player.
Maxi Rodriguez is a player reborn. Like Mereiles though, if he can properly come to terms with the physicality of the league he could be still better than he's shown so far.
The Liverpool crowd were absolutely fantastic, the noise never stopped and we have the best fans in the land. I took my little lad, and he was absolutely buzzing.
In Kenny we have the man. Those of us who doubted him were absolutely miles off the mark.
