I think we will win this one comfortably. All the pieces will fall nicely into place and we will start to show the form we will be taking into the new season. Strongest available team, good strong performance, and a good finish to our pre-season 2-0, possibly more if we keep our best players on for more than 60 mins.

      No prisoners...... THIS is Anfield.

      :)

Player of the first half Downing, Lucas slotted in as if he had never been away and was my player of the second half. Aurelio and Agger both did well (if only they could stay fit!)

Clean sheet, two goals and a performance closer to what we'll need to see next weekend.  Definitely puts the other pre season games into perspective.

Big shout out to Martin Kelly today who has been fantastic. Barring one cross where he could have gotten tighter on Mata he was just utterly perfect.

Full time - solid 2-0 win. Very happy with the defensive performance. Lucas coming on at half time and adding some much needed brute in the midfield was good. Andy Carroll had a very good half on his own up front causing the Valencian defence cause for concern. The left combo of Aurelio and Downing (very good game) hit it off immediately.

Some criticism - A bit of flair and passing quality needed through the centre would be highly desired. That said I know the likes of Adam and Aquilani are much better than that. But with Suarez and Stevie to come back in the not so distant future (hope for Stevie) things are looking fine.

But a good defensive performance is what I needed to see today and we got that so I am very satisfied!

Man of the match - Martin Kelly.

Good result, but more importantly pretty well played.

Positives - defense, FB and wide players linking up, Carroll looking mean and sharp, return of Lucas, youngsters slotting straight in and picking up where they left off at the end of last season.

Negatives - the F***ing long ball, Adam and Henderson not quite up to speed yet, and a bit too direct, something I expect to see change when Suarez is back.

Thought that was a fairly decent game.  Second half got a bit messy due to all the changes.  Good that we kept the shut-out.

Good result, better performance, more professional performance from the lads, most importantly a clean sheet.

Lucas when called upon put in a solid performance and a couple of nice passes, also showed why he is so important to the team, broke up play brilliantly.

      Happy days.

Clean sheet, some decent performances. Pity we played the first half with ten men ;)

Lucas is a Machine and just getting better, Carroll and Downing look sharp. Adam got a standing O when he came off will only get better. Happy days.

Kelly had a much better game.  Downing really impressed, can't wait to see him and Suarez on the pitch together.  Lucas had a good half.  Glad we got a clean sheet, I went for us conceding one before the match.  Should be good for the lads confidence.

Downing M0TM IMO, poor use of Aquilani, Henderson did less then turn up. Charlie Adam has a lot of work to do passing was amiss and looks a liability defencively. Kelly looks like he's beefed up an d improved his pace at the same time, good performace from him. Carroll looked better than previous but still needs to improve.

I think a few are being a little harsh on Adam, he had to fight for what little possession he got and while he didn't always make the best use of it, did ok.

We were lucky to get away with the penalty shout after he handled in the box to be fair.
