Are we talking who are the best players we've brought in, or the best transfers as in best deal pound for pound?
Should stick a poll up on this one.

Not picking you out for this mate but would you really put Masch and Suarez in our top 5? I would like to know why you chose them. Both World class players in their own right but don't feel their impact is as big as Sami.

Like i said not questioning you just wondered for what reasons you'd have them in.

The best 5 transfers... during ALL club's history years???
Or just the last 10 years by now?

If we're talkin' about the last 10 years, these are the best 5 transfers (in) we made:

      Hamman
      Hyypia
      Alonso (the very best!)
Torres (in & out, both were great transfers)
      Suarez

      What, no Glen Johnson? ;)

      Reina (world class keeper)
Hyypia (best signing in my lifetime)
Gary Mac (best unexpected free transfer ever)
Hamann (chosen over Alonso, more consistent over his seven years)
Torres (great striker for couple of seasons, great business getting rid)

      Reina
      Alonso
      Hyypia
      Torres
      Suarez

Reina & Hyypia for what they've given the club over their lengthy careers (with Reina's still on going). Alonso and Torres for playing well over a few seasons and then moving on to make us money, especially in the case of Torres. And finally Suarez, because he will be awesome and if we do end up selling him we'll make enough money on that deal too.

I'd like to think Lucas will be up there soon too, considering we only paid 5m for the lad.

The lack of English players in peoples choices shows how English football has changed from 1992

I am happy to watch all these World class foreign players but I would like to see a couple of English players in our top 5 transfers in the next few years

Suarez to me is currently the best striker on the planet, for 22 million he is a steal when you look at prices being paid for other players.

Mascherano for me was and is the best defensive midfielder on the planet we got him for 17 million less than Utd paid at the time for Carrick and Anderson. Can't remember him having a bad game for us

Obviously in terms of value Danny Sami is second to none. But then looking at Carragher top 4 you'd hardly have  put a past his prime Fowler in the top 5

Why ? We already have the best English player of the past decade ...

Hopefully, we could produce the next one in a not-so-distant future ...

I believe having a strong spine of the best English players will give us the best chance of winning the EPL

Good selection.  I'd probably go with that as well over the past 20 years.

And people are surprised that I despise SkySports ... What was the last team with an English spine to win the league title ?

And no, the Terry/Lampard and Ferdinand/Rooney pairings do not represent a "spine" ...

      So, english players only....

Carragher (I think he joined the club in 1992, the first year of Premiere League era, if my memory is correct) - stealing an Everton promising youth and making him a Liverpool legend...

Owen out - after being sold he only became worse and worse, it was the good moment to part ways. Also showed no loyalty to his fans when he joined Utd after Real.

Crouch in and out - a precious squad player when he was here but nothing more. Would have been an error to give him a more important role, as he would never have been a prolific striker, so letting him go instead of giving him more playtime was a good move too.

Konchesky loaned then sold out - loaning that regular starter under Roy to an inferior league club was the beginning of the good second half of our last season and allowed our very good young LB to show their talent.

Adam bought for 6m - we weren't far to purchase him for 12 or 13m last january, then got him for half this price this summer. good business to have waited.

      Man United 2010-2011.

      Gary Neville

      Rio Ferdinand

      Wes Brown

      Michael Owen

      Wayne Rooney

      Chris Smalling

      Michael Carrick

      Paul Scholes

      John O’Shea (Irish)

      Ryan Giggs (Welsh)

      Johny Evans

      Darren Fletcher (Scottish)

12 players from a 25 man squad that suggests that United had an English (Uk) spine to their squad.
