As Carragher's has ruffled a few feathers... I thought it would be interesting to see other peoples thoughts on this...
Personally, I would have gone for:
Alonso (IN) - world class passer of the ball, could see passes no-one else could see, and gave his all in a Red shirt, poor management decisions cost us this lad - the only thing I would criticise Rafa for, but I feel he would have gone back to Spain anyway. Absolute world class player.
Hyypia (IN) - Spent 10 years at LFC, could read the game unbelievably! His pace was never the best, but he made up for it in the way he could read the game...Ironically the last game he started for us against United, when he found out 10 mins before kick off epitomised the man, did a world class job, and still I regard it as one of his best games for the club. Would love to see him come back as a coach, so he can get the league title medal he didn't get (The only one he didn't win at LFC)
Hamann (IN) - The Kaiser was a surprising signing by Ged, but stayed at LFC for 7 years, another of the squad who won it all, except the league. Sterling tackler, great distributor and could score a great goal....Again, would love to see Didi back on the staff here one day.
Torres (IN) - We needed a world class striker, and after losing in Athens in 2007, it was obvious we needed to get one on board... Torres was not a world class striker when we signed him for our record fee.. He was a great striker, but not world class... LFC made him world class.. His goalscoring record was phenomenal, and his first season was sensational - 33 goals in his first season in England. On his day, he could destroy defences, he had pace, and he knew how to finish. Great bit of business by Benitez.
Torres (OUT) - The time was right to sell Torres, and for £50m, was incredible business for the club. IF we had sold him under the old regime, there is no way this would be on the list, but Torres came back from the World Cup, and he just was not the same player. Injury prone, he had lost some of his pace (Think Michael Owen, Used to have phenomenal pace, then lost it due to too many injuries) and the squad relied on his fitness too much... Selling him for £50m, was the right price, at the right time. I have no doubt Torres will score for Chelsea, but I just feel he will not be as prolific as he was at LFC. With the money, we got in Carroll (Will be great for LFC when he is 100% fit and we find the system which suits him/LFC best) and we got Suarez (Who is arguably better than Torres for many things). The player was disinterested in playing for us, and once that happens, its time to go...
