The whole thing's about to get very very interesting. Those of us who absolutely believe in the manager (there ARE still a couple of us left) have had a tough time of it lately. Endless discussions about win percentages (always an interesting one that when we're discussing a manager who brought Swansea into the Premiership and exceeded expectations massively), haircuts, bird selection, posters on walls, cars etc etc, mixed in with the obvious and understandable disappointment that we aren't going to match last seasons best league effort for over 20 years, and we've had little to come back with.
Yes we've been able to reason that losing both of the top two scorers in the Premiership last season would damage most teams, but for many that is merely "an excuse", and there's only so many times you can be bothered to type it in any case. We've said that some of our other injuries haven't been ideal, that given the fact we signed so many youngsters with the "£120 million we spunked" it was impossible to call them all "failures" at this stage simply because nobody could know yet.
There's no doubt it's been a grim few months, and those of that persuasion have been able to gleefully put the boot into the manager at every opportunity. They've been able to ridicule his every word, slam his formations and his tactics as he's searched for answers, they've urged a defensive coach today (no doubt an attacking coach tomorrow and a completely new coach the day after that), and other than point out that it's all getting a bit boring, we've been kind of running out of answers.
Like I say though I have a very strong feeling things are on the turn, and THAT'S why it's going to get very interesting on the pitch AND on the forum. We are turning the ship around only a blind man can't see that, and when we do I have a feeling we are going to start absolutely blitzing teams again. Of course the predictable and obvious response will be "but then we'll all be happy as we ALL want the team to win", but while that's obviously true my guess and feeling is that such has been the vitriol, some are going to find it a bit uncomfortable to watch. My prediction is that we'll see the "a better manager would have turned it around earlier" argument rear it's head, we'll see.
My guess though is that Melwood will currently be a happier place to be around than it was a few weeks back. People will be buzzing about getting into the team right now, and we are going to give someone a right good hiding very soon. I can't wait and I'll say it again here, we WILL go very very close to getting fourth, close enough IMHO to actually get there.
For the positive amongst us, for those who believe in the manager, our time has come. We've been on the ropes in the forum sense, but we didn't buckle and now we can come out swinging, great times ahead!!
