VVD getting injured doesn't bother me half as much as Robertson getting injured and us having to put Moreno back in at left back. He seems to have an ability to instill a deep malaise in that area of the pitch once he comes in. He doesn't track back nearly as quickly as Robertson and his attacking play, despite being found in advanced positions quite often, leaves A LOT to be desired. Rarely does he pull off something that will result in something productive for our attack. And then there is his defending. He leaves acres of space in the left back area, struggles to get tight to his man, gets skinned far too often and generally looks a fool. He's very lucky to still be at Liverpool. The notion that he started last season well is a myth evidenced by the shitloads of goals we were letting in during those first couple of months. No one in our back line came out of that period well. We only really started to improve as a defence once Robbo cemented his place there and VVD and, though some people don't admit it, Karius became first choice in January.
I would not hesitate to install Milner back in at left back in the event of Robbo not being available. Moreno is a complete non starter.
If Robertson gets injured or does a suarez and bites someone and we lose him for a considerable amount of time then I agree we will be in big trouble if Moreno gets a lengthy run in the side.
If it's just an occasional rest for Robbo then I've got no problem with that though.
It wasn't a myth, morenos performances did improve at the start of last season. I'm not saying his performances were good enough for Liverpool but his chaotic moments were much more limited. He seemed to have matured slightly and wasn't anywhere near as erratic.
Moreno will make a big mistake every 3 or 4 games so a long run in the team worries me because we all know at some point he will cost us. Putting him in every now and then in one off games we will probably get away with it though.
The same logic applies to Lovren which I've voiced my opinions on recently. He is similar to Moreno where he is a liability and he has big mistakes in him. They may not be as frequent as Moreno but they will still happen and just like Moreno, at some point, he will cost us.
Having dejan in the squad and filling in for us every now and then wouldn't bother me. Just like Moreno we will probably get away with it. But giving dejan a lengthy run in the team and what's worse even making him first choice alongside VVD then he will make big errors eventually and they will bite us on the arse.
