We would have won if we had Tom Ince.

      Why? Is he good defending?

I do wish Brendan would stop spouting about 4th, it's embarrassing, especially after a defeat like today.
Just spoken to a friend who has been the match, he said we were awful and Allen needs to go and have his operation and then we should get rid! He also said Skrtel's confidence is shot and he partly blames Brendan for that.
I feel sorry for those who made the journey, because they must feel a whole lot worse than we do, and it's a long way home.

A little bit of rain and an energetic relegation battling side completely outdid us. Embarrassing.

Absolutely dire, don't bother putting man of the match up. We couldn't put a pass through at all. Fair play to the Saints though, they harried every ball and suffocated our passing from beginning to end and that's the nub, teams facing relegation play for their lives and that simple fact done us. They played their hearts out and tactically that ended us because our pass and play game was done.

Onwards and upwards lads and ladies.

I dont think I'll be the first to simply say, WTF just happened?

That was'nt the team I saw last time, that was a p*ss poor attempt at a team, and sadly Iam not refering to Southampton. Where was the flowing movement, passing, togetherness, the f*cking spirit we had?

This is us though isn't it? Any side who makes it a battle against us, almost always wins. Stoke being the classic example. Absolutely nothing to play for and its March, roll on the summer.

      God knows what happened there,
We go on a little winning run- Swansea, Zenit, Spurs, then we come across bloody Southampton and lose!

I get so frustrated with the team turning up or not!

I live on the south coast and the saints fans i spoke to were genuinely concerned about this game.

Shame our team decided to play like a team of feckin' muppets. It's like they were out on the razzle last night. Dire Dire Dire Dire.

Don't bother with all the cheesy supportive comments like we need to focus on the next game now...we should have focused on this feckin' one first !!

get off martin's F***ing back lads, no lucas to protect them, no outlet. everyone was crap. midfield was just crap. non existant. couldn't believe lucas was on the bench and our only midfielders were allen and gerrard. oh and jones not reina. no wonder everyone was shaky, no reina, carra or lucas.. no steel at all. none.

i don't feel comftorable starting against a championship team with allen and gerrard in the mid. way too light. lucas gerrard would scrape by as acceptable, but we've gotta have three bodies in there.

Saw an article the other day and it summed it up perfectly. Whenever we are about to get back into the race for fourth, we also seem to choke the next game against a weak team. Seems about right. Kind of pisses me off. We should not be dropping points to teams like this. We are sort of in the same boat as last season, I just hope we start to see more improvement against teams weaker than us.

It is just as well there is no m.o.m for this game as we were pathetic and the best player probably never came off the subs bench.I feel bad getting out of bed at 3-30 am to watch that sh*te but I feel even more sorry for our RED mates who wasted time and money going to Southampton to see that pathetic display. How can we be world beaters one week and total crap the next week, I will never understand this.

Awful awful performance from everyone. Is this complacency or what? It seems that everytime Liverpool go on a little run, they have a shocker against a team they should beat comfortably. Allen should never have started, and the midfield was outnumbered once again.

I've got totale faith in Rodgers, but I feel sorry for Jordan Henderson. A player who has been performing well put out of place by Allen whose form has been nothing short of atrocious. Henderson would have given a bit more muscle in the midfield, and given the fact he's been performing well of late, could have done a good job.

The next game will probably be 5-0 to Liverpool which will piss me off even more, because surely there's no excuse for a performance like that. Every player should be ashamed of themselves.

Exactly. It's very telling that our failure to protect a lead has cost us points and places. I'm thinking of City (both matches), Everton and Arsenal (from 2-0 up to 2-2 in each case). Even last week we got mugged by Spurs before they gifted us two goals.

So there's a pattern here. We lack steel in defence and central midfield which makes us, as I've posted before, much too soft.

Unless BR can sort out this fundamental weakness, we won't make consistent progress.
