      Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio JETS IN to Anfield for £40m transfer talks with Liverpool

      LIVERPOOL are closing in on a deal to sign Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio, according to reports in Portugal.

      Eduardo Salvio is headed for talks at Anfield

      According to Portuguese paper O'Jogo the Benfica president and Salcio's agent have flown to the UK to tie up a deal.

      Salvio has a £40million buyout clause although it is suggested the Reds will try and negotiate a better price with Benfica in financial trouble.

      The 24-year-old has represented Argentina five times.

      He joined Benfica in 2012 from Atletico Madrid after an initial loan spell.

      This season he scored nine times in 29 Liga Sagres appearances

      Daily Express getting this from Portuguese paper O'Jogo. No idea how reliable O'Jogo is.

      Seems very expensive but Salvio is supposedly very talented. Don't know what to think of it yet.

      Apparently if rumours are to be believed Benfica are a bit cash strapped at the moment and will sell Salvio for €30 million.

      not worth it.

      move onto where we actually need strengthing ffs,  this incompetent management team doesn't make it easy for themselves do they?

      Literally just watched this one on YouTube :D I'm surprised at how many headers he scored last/this season considering his lack of height.

      Shades of last summer when we were splashing money on wide men while neglecting the main area needing strengthening ( ie upfront, to state the obvious).

      Was surprised  when we went for both Lallana and Markovic when it seemed we only needed one ( plus we were supposedly chasing Shaqiri too, even after signing the other 2).
      I've no objection to us signing big money wingers, but if we spend £30m+ on this guy, and then bring in Danny Ings as our marquee striker, it may just drive me mental.

      (As for senor Salvio considered in himself, I have no idea about him - he may well be very good.)

      Edit to add:
      Just watched that youtube vid - it says his main weakness is his defensive contribution. Suddenly his signing makes more sense - we do have a vacancy at right back.

      E. Salvio has a ligament rupture in his right knee and is likely to need surgery, according to Benfica.

      No mention you could get for less a player like Pedro.

      Depay was cheaper and a better player in my opinion.

      Konoplyanka and Ayew being available for free and no less proven than this guy I don't see why we'd be interested in paying tens of millions for that other winger.

      Now it's LFC so we'll probably prefer to spend 60m on new wingers, then start the season with Ings as lone striker.
