Sources are questionable, but hey I'm gonna bite!
Xabi Alonso unsure on Bayern Munich future
The Reds are today being linked with a sensational move to re-sign former midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is reportedly stalling on a new contract at Bayern Munich as he weighs up his potential options. However, before you get too excited, this story is coming to us from The Metro. The notorious transfer rumour-munger are claiming that Alonso, who has one year remaining on his current deal, could be tempted into a move.
They quote him as saying: “My contract? We will see what happens. This is not the time to discuss this subject.”
Of course, there is no other reference or quote to Liverpool mentioned.
Alonso, 33, first joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in 2004. By the end of his first year at Anfield, he was a firm fan favourite, having helped guide us to our fifth Champions League triumph – scoring the third goal in the memorable comeback against AC Milan in the final.
He added an FA Cup winners medal to his collection the following year, while he also won the Super Cup and the Community Shield during his five years on Merseyside.
Real Madrid came calling in 2009 and the midfielder has since gone on to have a highly successful career in both Spain and Germany – winning seven major honours in seven seasons, including another European title.
He was also part of the Spain side that won the World Cup and back-to-back European titles during a six year period, before retiring from international football with 114 caps to his name last year.
Alonso’s return would no doubt be warmly welcomed at Anfield. The addition of a deep-lying playmaker would go some way to filling the void left by Steven Gerrard’s departure and complete a now well-stocked midfield, which has also been boosted by the addition of James Milner.
He proved last season with Bayern that he’s still good enough to play at the highest level, but we just can’t see it happening, sadly.

The Anfield legend says he is in no rush to decide his future despite his current deal having just one year left to run.
And the news could put Liverpool on alert as the Spain international had previously been linked with an emotional return.
The Spaniard spent five years on Merseyside after joining the club from Real Sociedad in 2004.
Regarded as one of the club's finest midfield players of the Premier League era, they won the Champions League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup during his time.
"My contract? We will see what happens. This is not the time to discuss this subject," he said.
The 34-year-old also opened up about former team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger's move to Manchester United.
The German joined United for a fee of around £14million and the midfield playmaker was keen to offer the Bayern legend a parting message.
"Basti has been very important to Bayern for the past 10 years," he added.
"But he has made the decision to move on. That's his call and I can only wish him the best."

But hey it's out there, and like Douglas Bader it probably won't have any legs, but what it does mean is I can post this.
