I'm hoping too mate. Jürgen has their respect.

I think they also understand now that he won't buy for buying sake so when he does go to them and say "I really need X player" then they're more inclined to go and make a deal.

      Begovic anyone?

Far better than Mignolet or Karius.  And he can't be happy sitting on the bench at Chelsea.

I do like him but I'm not sure he fits the style that Klopp wants though?

I wouldn't say far better but an improvement for sure.

I'm sure Chelsea would be well up for selling their second choice keeper to their nearest title rivals

Really wanted Begovic when we signed Mignolet. Hard to say if he's still as good as he was when he's sitting on the bench each week.

As mentioned above, doubt chelsea would be wanting to deal with us right now.

Wijnaldum struggled to hold down a regular spot in one position for a team relegated.
Eh? He made 38 league appearances for Newcastle, only two from the bench, 34 of which were as an attacking midfielder of some ilk.
Not to disagree with your overall point of course.

Wijnaldum's positions and game numbers for Newcastle.

      AM - 14 games
      CM - 4 games
      RM - 18 games
      LM - 2 games

Technically Crouchie is right but we don't know the reasoning behind it all.

Those were the numbers I was basing my point on. Only 4 games as a CM - is the only meaningfully different position to the normal position he played. In this case playing on the left right or centre is not really a different position as he never played the wide positions as a winger - he was an attacking midfielder who is two footed so moved around. (Not to say playing wide is never different position - just wasn't for Wijnaldum)

Take Lallana - he played wide sometimes in his first year here, but he wasn't really playing a different position - it was the same role on the right or left side of the pitch. Now he is playing a different position in the Central Midfield, as his duties and responsibilities have changed.

As a CAM he played like a shadow striker making runs in to the box, on the left he played like an inside forward and on the right he was a playmaker.

Very different roles, i'd say. Sometimes from necessity but also a lot of the time trying to get the best out of him. He never really looked comfortable in any role for them.

Moot point now as Draxler is off to PSG.

However, two things: with a minus £9m summer spend (on top of all that TV gold) and the Jürgen factor - we might see another seed change. Football may take precedence for the first time and we may, finally, go for it.

      Fingers crossed; eh? 👍

This exactly. We are approx. at £10m -ve spend from the summer, and add another £10m from Sakho's imminent sale. We should be targeting a winger PLUS Dahoud

In my opinion it can never do any harm to add depth at any time. To add it at a time when we have a great shot at the title? Well that, to me, makes even more sense.

If Jürgen does indeed fancy Dahoud and the lad is indeed 'all that' then he won't be getting any cheaper. As for 'winger' - folk know who I'd like but we could also throw in a cheaper punt with that kid Grifo, from Freiburg [before the Saints buy him then move him onto us at 7 x the original cost ].

Feel we could do with a wide player during the January window.
Would hate to rock the Apple cart too much by bringing in another CM, GK or a LB. sure that could well happen in the summer.

gotta get enforcements in the transfer window. We are currently in the second place and we should do whatever we can to win the league.
Mane is off, players will get injured and some will drop form. We need others to step in and continue to get points.

In my opinion the starting 11 looks solid as it is except for the keeper position but we certainly need backups on the wings where we only have Coutinho and Mane

If true; there could be many reasons for that - did she say what they were or even how she came to that conclusion mate?   :confused-smiley-013:

Would be madness not to push on now and improve the squad. Look at the bench the last few games. While it's good to see young lads being named on the bench it's not ideal when your hunting down the title, you need experience there. Plus its not exactly like they are being put on the pitch to gain experience. Stoke was an opportunity to give a few minutes to the young lads that wasn't taken.

Between now and May there will be more injuries and suspensions and we need to be able to cover that to sustain the challenge.
