Can’t believe he guessed the right way on the penalty! Normally he never gets close!
Maybe if he just saved the ball as he used to, rather than parry the ball directly into the opponent's path as he's now doing, he wouldn't have needed to face the penalty at all. It's the third time it's happened in the last three games, and twice the ball has ended up behind him. He was collecting those balls last year and the year before, now he's parrying them out into dangerous areas and goals are being scored. He left a gap as wide as the Mersey for the other goal to be put past him at the weekend also. And there was the customary dodgy clearances as well. That's not world class goalkeeping, it's not even EPL class. The feeling of safety the defenders once had to pass the ball back to him and get it back from him instantly has been affected. Its all very well saying, right let's focus on Europe, but it's never quite as simple as that. Make those errors in Europe where we have to face better quality opposition than the neighbours, and No. 7 will have to wait a bit longer.
Sorry that sounds ultra critical, but he's conceded 9 goals in the last 3 league games. He has kept one clean sheet in the league this year. He shipped 3 more goals in just one game in the cup. Yes we can talk about centre back partnerships and it has been, but some of the goals are squarely his own fault, the league is rapidly disappearing down the plughole, and he must be held to the same degree that everyone else in the team has. He needs a break, and goalkeeper is the one position atm where we're not short of options.
