I’m not a religious fella in any way shape or form, although born a Christian I’m no believer, I was 28 years old in ‘89’ and luck was definitely shining for me that horrible day,
13 of us travelled to Sheffield that day in a works van, 4 of us had tickets, we landed at a boozer, parked the van and that was that, the day had begun, within 15 mins I had a ticket for the Leppings lane block C, I was totally made up , as the day wore on it got better and better, had a few ales, everyone singing having a blast, after a while a mate asked me what ticket I had, Seen what it was and asked if I would mind swapping with this other fella his mate, I did and then sat in the stand above the central pen, I didn’t care I was there to watch my beloved Reds in a Cup Semi Final, I missed the one the year before so you can imagine my excitement,
I dunno what would have happened had I not swapped, I don’t care to think about it to be honest, all I know is I was extremely lucky, I’ve never really told my story before, I dunno why I have today, today and for a lot of other times throughout the year I think about those poor souls who never Came home, i think about their poor families and their suffering, I can’t imagine the pain they will feel today when all the dreadful memories go through their minds, I will never forget that day, nor can I ever forget those who we lost, NEVER FORGET !
RIP 96
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
