I'd like to think we hold ourselves to higher standards!

It's a big role. When you've only had two captains in the last 20 years (three technically with Hyypia but near enough 20 years when he gave up the band) it's quite a big deal. The standards that Gerrard and Hendo set means that it deserves to be treated with prestige. Ideally you'd want to give it to the person most likely to stay on at the club for many years to come. I like the wildcard option of Trent. It'd be quite an elevation for him but would love to see him step up to the task of it.

will Mo be pissed off if he isnt given the honour ? he would lead by example.

I think Mo deserves vice captaincy. He’s a guaranteed starter, leads by example and has unreal experience. A proper winner.

Has to be Trent for me, Virgil, Robbo, Ali all ideal contenders, but that trio i can’t see being here for the next ten yrs, but I do envisage Trent being like our Previous Scouse Captain a one club player, his maturity is beginning to shine now after his early years and I don’t believe there is anyone else best suited for the role,

As has been said previously at Liverpool, within the Squad there are many leaders, those three above as well as Jimmy before becoming a seagull, and those three would respect Trent if indeed he took the armband, it’s a no brainer imo,

Jordan remains our Skipper for now, but Trent I hope takes us through the next ten yrs .

See, this is why we take very little notice of ugly fat shitehouse rats like you, especially when you come up with such useless statements, typically Mancunian opinions on who our next captain should be,

Irrespective of Virgil being a ideal candidate it is of my opinion that we employ a captain for the long haul rather than perhaps just for the time said player has left at our club,

Mo Salah. He's earned it with consistent performances. And he more than deserves it. Don't be stupid and not do it.

If theyre stupid and dont reward Mo, then Robbo for me. Trents time will come.

For the love of God don't give it to Virgil.

A couple years ago when the players voted for the captaincy hierarchy Salah wasn't even voted as 1 of the 6 in the hierarchy. Doubt he'll be made captain now. Plus he's likely gone next summer so it should go to someone like Trent who will be here long term.

got a number of important assists too I guess we are lucky to have so many quality players who are also leaders on the pitch. Just hope the new Captain decision doesnt piss off any players.

Nailed on to be van Dijk but I'd have no problem with Salah and Trent as vice captain.

However, none of us know the actual dynamic of the dressing room without the likes of Milner and Henderson so you have to have faith that the manager knows that much better than any of us and will make the correct choice.

Gomez for me...... If the club fucks up and doesn't make the right call, I suspect Robbo and VVD are decent 2nd and 3rd choices  :f_whistle:

As much as I think it will be Van Dijk, he's 32 now with two years left on his contract. So we could end up having to choose another captain at the end of next season or we could go with somebody who is, almost, guaranteed to be here five to six years from now.

      That for me is Trent.

Or a real out the box choice and give it straight to Szoboszlai. Captains his national team, would show a huge amount of trust in him and would keep the continuity of having a central midfielder as captain.

Ultimately though, there should be 11 captains on the park. They should all have the confidence to be vocal and they should all have the ability to lead by example.

Totally agree Billy aside from the Szoboszlai shout, what message would be sent out to Messers VanDijk, Robbo Ali or indeed Mo if the new kid on the block jumped ahead of those who may or may not have ‘Captain’ aspirations ?

Like your good self Trent for me ticks all the boxes, he’s at the ideal age, at 24, has matured like a fine wine and perhaps most importantly he’s Fookin Scouse, Virgil, Mo, Ali, Robbo, et al are all fine candidates for the armband, of course they are, but like you I can’t see them being here for the long haul as Trent I believe will be,

No brainer, Trent all day long, twice on a Sunday!!

It'd tell them just how disappointing their performances were last year that Klopp doesn't feel their worthy of the armband. But as has been discussed many times, it's the players who pick the captaincy group.

And I don't for one minute think Szoboszla is in the running anyway.
