Was that a perfect job over the WC or was it more hassle than it was worth?
You must have been pretty proud though, i would imagine to have a role in the BEST World Cup in recent memory!
Did you get many free tickets? Are you glad you had the opportunity? Whats next for you?
Sorry for not answering before mate!
I wouldn't say it was a "perfect" job - accreditation & access control isn't exactly the most glamorous part of a World Cup - but it was truly amazing. Especially because I was in a position of direct planning & management support to the department's lead, and even represented him in some meetings with top management people from FIFA and the Organising Committee. It was a great experience. I remember being in one meeting when I looked around and thought "I guess I'm the only under-30 in this room".
I was proud to be part of such a great competition and my superiors seem to have had a very good impression about my work, which is great and opened many doors for me. Now I'm waiting for an opportunity in the 2016 Olympic Games Organising Committee. I've had an interview there last week and though it hasn't led to a job offer straight away (there wasn't a job opening in the department that interests me the most), I was told new openings are expected in the coming months and they should contact me. I'm very anxious but I think it will happen.
After 2016, my idea is to go to Liverpool and study the MBA Football Industries at the University of Liverpool. My initial plans were to go this year but I think the olympics represent an unique opportunity in my own city so now I intend to stay for the next couple of years.
As for free tickets, I didn't get any. I did get to buy tickets more easily though, but that was only a couple of days before the WC actually started - up until that point, I was totally ticketless! My family kept complaining "I can't believe you work for the committee and can't get any tickets"
but in the end I did. I watched all games at the Maracanã (7 in total) and one semifinal in São Paulo. I also got to take my girlfriend, my mother, both my brothers, my dad and his wife to at least one game each.
I'm sure you said you wanted a job within sport, soft lad. Glad to hear you've got some experience, now. Well in!
Yep mate. Just wait and see, in a few years I'll be working for LFC!
