Voronin, if you don't like it then just go!
      Apr 10, 2008 01:40:59 pm
I'm quite dissapointed to hear what Voronin had to say about life in Liverpool. With many like Fernando Torres saying he loves life in Liverpool, Voronin has other idea's...

"Compared with Germany, England is far behind in terms of comfort and culture," Voronin said in an interview with a Russian newspaper. "Five out of the seven houses near us are occupied by footballers.

"Steve Gerrard was burgled recently so a police patrol car comes into our compound fairly often. We hear police sirens all the time. Leverkusen, by contrast, was so much quieter."

On Britain's health care, he said: "The medical services here are poor. When I was in Germany, there were lots of good clinics and doctors.

"It is nothing like that here - when our child had a skin allergy we waited hours for the doctor to see him.

"When we finally got to see a doctor, he said he didn't know how to treat children and to try rubbing in this ointment.

"That was it. I was stunned. As a result my wife had to go back to Odessa with him and took a full set of tests there."

And in a final remark which is sure to have fans on the Kop up in arms, Voronin added: "I study English twice a week with a teacher and I have made some progress in it.

"But English isn't the main problem. The main thing is to learn to understand the local players like Gerrard and Carragher.

"They speak with some peculiar local accent and sometimes I have absolutely no clue what the guys are saying.

"Many foreign players have the same problem."

What an idiot. Rafa, I'd say get rid of him he's sh*t at football anyway :D

Obviously he is saying an excuse to his poor performance.
He should go to other clubs at the end of season.

It's not worth h's wearing no.10 red shirt.

Dissapointing to hear one of our players speak like that!

A lot of players see the accent issue as something of fun! Someone said Torres regularly has the dressing room in stitches impersonating Gerrard and Carragher! Shame he can't get his head around this 'peculiar local accent' just like his more expensive striking counterpart has!! :D There's a difference in class as a person aswell as on the pitch! ::)

Whilst I definitely want Voronin to be shown the door in the summer, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with regards to this interview. The way that article is written suggests to me that there was a lot more said that wasn't printed, usually when a player's interviewed there will be questions about what he thinks of the club, manager, team mates etc, but there's no mention here. It could well be that he said he loves the club & is really happy here, but had a couple of gripes about the country, and rather than printing a balanced article the journo decided to only use the negative comments he made.

To be fair to him though I can't really argue with his assessment of the NHS :D

My thoughts exactly, although I would have been here all day and went off topic! ;)

It's a similar situation to the Sissoko interview a while back! It looked initially that he just complained when there was a lot of positives padding the interview out!

To be fair to the lad, he hasn't exactly got much chance of overshadowing a certain Spanish goal King! ;) Right club at the wrong time anyone? :P

But in terms of comfort and culture he says that England is far behind Germany! Surely this is totally wrong. For a start Liverpool is the city of culture 2008 and places like the center of London has so much culture to it.

I really don't know what Voronin is talking about, has he not left his cul de sac before?

Considering the amount you've had a pop about this country & said you'd love to leave, I'm surprised you don't agree with him. I haven't been to Germany since I was 8 so I can't make a proper judgement, but certainly all the figures seem to suggest that things like crime rate, pollution etc are more of a problem over here, and I'll guarantee he pays a lot more tax here than he would have done over there. I myself believe there are plenty better places to live than England, and I know you do as well, so I can't really knock him if he doesn't like the country. If he had been slagging off the club then I would be fuming at him, but any comments he had on that subject have been strangely ommited from this article.

I would normally say he's one of our players and anyone chosen to play for LIVERPOOL shold be given a fair amount of chances and support. What makes us different to other fans is were not normally fickle. However alowing for media twisting, if he said these things then fuc. him, even if he thinks he's right, is he forgetting that on his wages he could probobly afford Harley Street, to fly anywhere in the world for a Dr! It's up to him, make an effort, make us a better team, shut up or .uck off.

Voronin should be stripped off his number ten jersey and sent back to Germany. If he doesn't like the country, he should sip out. His form has been woeful this season. He makes a mess of a whole lot of chances, the Arsenal game for example. Rafa might probably be considering letting him lose. I hear we are linked with Strikers Dani Aquino(Murcia) and Marcelo Moreno(Cruzeiro)

Good point. On his salary, he should be able to get proper medical treatment for his kid, and not whining about NHS. Cheapskate.

He clearly doesn't want to stay, so Rafa get rid of him!!! Like I have said, he did start off well but never carried it on. he wastes too many chances. He has to go. i really do not want to see him playing next season for us.

I never thought I'd see the day I'd defend Voronin, but here goes.

Does anyone think during the course of this interview he wasn't asked something along the lines of 'How do you like playing for Liverpool?'. Of course he was, it would get asked in any interview. Think about the way the media always are about us, they always like to put a negative spin on things. The fact that any comments on the club have been omitted strongly suggests to me that there was nothing negative said about the club itself. Slag Voronin off all you like for being sh*te (I do all the time) but I really don't think he deserves any stick for this interview which would appear to be another case of the media misrepresenting comments made by one of our players or manager. If at the end of the day the article had said Voronin loved the club & enjoyed working under Rafa but found living in England quite difficult would there be anything wrong with that? For all we know that could well be exactly what he said, so I'll be taking the article with a pinch of salt as I do with everything printed in the British press.

He's still sh*te though, and definitely needs to go in the summer.

I agree with you there Eddie always one with a clear head you are. I still think he should return to proffesional wrestling as he was quite good at that, never mind triple H perhaps you can play guitar for status quo and that may keep you happier.

I agree 100% hes sh*t and not fit to wear that jersey but if Torres had made them comments would  the reaction be the same? At the moment we are all anti Voronin because of his performances or non performances I should say but id give him some slack with the interview. Im sure if we moved to the Ukraine and were asked by people at home whats it like we'd probably say its crap the food is muck etc etc so lets not hang him over this

But I do hope he moves on for football reasons

I agree with you here Eddie, he probably said "I'm very happy but.." and the media have only said the negatives. No doubt it's likely they've twisted his words to make them sound more harsh too!

      From the official site, today:

There are comments in today's newspapers suggesting you are not happy here in England. Can you explain what exactly you meant?

To begin with, I never said I don't like it here. When I first moved here I didn't find it easy because I'd lived in Germany for 12 years. I didn't know the language but I'm gradually getting there. My wife had a baby here and, thank God, everything was okay. So, I am getting more and more used to life here every day.

So, you're saying you were mis-quoted?

It was either a misunderstanding or I was deliberately mis-quoted, yes.

So is your family settled now?

We are feeling much better than six or seven months ago. When we have time we go into town. My wife likes to spend time shopping in the city. We like it here and don't have any problems with life in England or the town, except for the weather!

Do you come into much contact with the fans and what do you make of them?

Liverpool fans are the best and most passionate in the world. Before I came here I knew about them. Now I can play in front of them and I love it. The support we receive is amazing. I have played in many stadiums and have never had any problems with the fans, but I have never come across the kind of connection between the players and fans as we have here in Liverpool.
