If Downing is the only left-sided player that we can get this season then I rather us go without!

Thats what i was thinking but thought there may be some thing in England about how sh*t he is or something like Bramble.

I reckon he has the best cross in England down the left and right up there out of everyone in the league.

Can you explain why, everyone just says "he's not good enough" but no one gives a reason

Some people are just desperate to get a big name like Silva. I wouldnt mind Downing. The past year are so, he has improved largely from being such a boring player to watch the year before. He put in a few good crosses today for boro- one in particular that caught my eye was when he caught the whole spurs defence on their toes but at the last minute, michael dawson reacted to head the ball out. I dont know why i added that

I think i wouldnt mind getting him now, im not sure just how good he can be but he can deliver a good ball into the box and he seems to be pretty skillful but i dont think Boro would ever consider selling him to us. I think the small teams are tired of the big four coming in for their players.

They wont sell but he was impressive today (our time). I dont know if he;d settle ino a big four club but he's much better than anyone we have right now.

14mill i can see him going for to be honest, and if the owners are true to their word (unlikly) we have 18mill to spend on a new player

I wouldnt spend 14 mill on him though. He is good but not worth that. I reckon just edging into double figures at the maximum for me. 10 million pounds. Not like he's going to improve into some hot shot but a great player.

Problem is teams know we wan't another player and will hike up their prices. 10 Million seems fair enough and is a good valuation, but there has been a lot more shelled out on players who may not be value for money.

At the moment there is a bandwagon, were managers are inflating prices and Martin O'neill hasn't helped matters. I'm sure there are plenty more players who would suit our needs more than downing, but it's all down to availability.

If we don't sign Joe Cole and I am sure we won't, Downing would be a very good option for the left side.

Espanyol's Albert Riera, meanwhile, could be latest addition to Liverpool's expanding Spanish community as Rafa Benítez concedes defeat in his bid to sign Gareth Barry, although word has it that Stewart Downing is having Spanish lessons ahead of a possible move to Anfield.

With the way things panned out with Barry, Downing is looking like a very good option right now. Hope we dont see another 18 million asking price; MON already set a bad precedent.

To be fair before i was critical of downing due to thinking maybe he wasnt good enough for a top 4 club but i would like to see him join. He has an eye for goal, has accurate crosses and links up very well with other players. As well as him being a left footed player which is what we really need on that left hand side.

Oo ive converted people to downing :P

I dont think Southgate will put an 18mill tag on his head, he's more of a fair play manager i think..... but still £14mill i think will be the price

I'd like to see him at Anfield, before the end of the window.Especially after the sagas of the summer this would cheer me up knowing that we have a quality winger at last would increase our chance of winning the league.

Not a bad player but something that pisses me off is that Berba is priced at 30 million and Scum fork it out, we want Barry for 18 and the owners are too tight arsed to fork that out. Infuriating.

I dont believe that trashy article about Downing coming, why would he need Spanish lessons when he is moving to another English club?

He may come but that article is a load of tosh.

I think he is a v.good player! he is very underrated and he is a Engerland regular. He would be a good signing but i dont want to be paying over the odds for him

I would be glad if we signed Downing. He is one of a few natural left, english wingers and a move to us could really establish him as an england regular. He has a brilliant cross and also has an eye for goal, he does'nt constantly drift into the middle either, he is a left winger and will hug that left sideline.

The price could well be a stublimg block though, i think Rafa should pay anything up to £15m for him, he is still young and i think he would fit into the team well and become an important player for us. If we were to launch a bid for him and it was accepted then i think he ould happily enter negotiation and would jump at the chance to join us.

Very underated IMO and would be a much better choice than Riera who would be a massive gamble seeing as he was shocking last time he played in the premiership.
