With Stevie G picking up a groin injury tonight it shows that we need both Xabi and Barry and they both are needed. I don't know how long Gerrard will be missing but with Barry around we have a ready made replacement and once Stevie is back I expect to see Barry along side Gerrard more often than not so the quicker we sign him the better I shall feel.

why not give plessis or spearing the chance. Plessis showed what he can do against arsenal and spearing looks ready so why spend so much on a player to replace an injured gerrard who is likely to be out for around a week or 2. Give the youth a chance

If I want both, what to do?

Alonso did much good things for Liverpool (we remember his equalizer in our the most  spectacular CL final)/ But he's in not against to leave Liverpool and Rafa doesn't want to sell him cheap. It means Xabi means a lot for us! As I remember he is believed the most English amongst all our Spanish lads.

Barry is quality too. Steven plays very good alongside Barry in England team. It's proved pair too. Steven has said many times he liked to play with Barry and wanted him to the team.
If it had been possible to look in the future and had seen how it would work?

so iv always had a soft spot for those two

I haven't voted yet - I'd prefer both to be in the team. But if it comes to the crunch, it will be Alonso. But it would have to be on the condition he can get forward more.

Alonso is a linch pin.He just has to be there if Liverpool are to challenge this season,backing up the play,breaking up the play, spraying but effective passes around and popping up the odd goal here and there.Alonso over Barry any day.

The good thing is, it looks like we wont hae to sell any player to buy Barry. Owners are financing the deal directly.

It's foolhardy to sell off players and then end up not having "quality" depth in the squad. We have a solid 11 and a lot of promising young guns. We all know an Injured Gerrard (as it is now) is a void, as Lucas cant fill that void. So a Barry/Benanyun Combo can help the situation while Alonso/Mascherano (when he returns) will hold the midfield.

This poll requires a third option for it to be truly reflective of the thoughts of the fans. A third option to keep both of them, and maybe a forth option that includes David Silva. Right now its lopsided.

he was injured for quite a while last seaon and you cant blame the champions league defeat on him because they got 2 goals remember. ok the free kick was given to them cheaply but inzaghi should not have had the goal stand as it came off his arm.

If there was an option for both then it wouldn't be Barry OR Alonso.  Let's face it.  Neither of them at their value will be happy being benched.

He's had a good pre-season and a good summer with Spain, he may be showing his qualities again. Forget Barry Rafa, he's too old and we'll never get £18m back if we wanted to sell him on. Same with Keane, a dumb buy.. we can't get £20m back if we want to sell him on.

Barry for me guys, used on the left of midfield when needed...more versatile than Xabi. Just my penny...

If we have to sell him, DO NOT sell him to another EPL team, he'll come back and haunt us.

Keane still have not open his scoring with us, he's playing pretty well though.

I think Barry will def improve us, but not at Xabi's expense i'm afraid. So if its a choice between the 2 most DEFINITELY XABI ALONSO - The best passer we've had since The Great Dane, Jan Molby!
