Who's the pick of the new boys?
      Sep 14, 2011 09:43:55 am
Early days so far, and may be a bit early for this topic, but I have been mightly impressed by Downing and Enrique. To be honest, the quality of distribution and general play by both has suprised me. I think they are, a potentially a great duo for our left hand side and should nail that down for all the bigger games for years to come. Enrique shades it for me, I never thought he was that good or consistent --- again early days.
Adams and Henderson are, I feel still bedding in, but you can see the potential, I for one am very excited, can't wait to see Coates and Bellamy getting a run, specially when SG is back.

Same as me though I wouldn't say I am surprised with Downing, I am very surprised with Enrique.

He makes defending look so easy. Reads the game well. Goes forward well. I've noticed how he still manages to win the ball after he was a yard behind. Also shields in really well. Best signing of the window for us, for me.

Downing, always has been a good player to me. Made up he's here!

Adam and Henderson aren't woeful but certainly not up to the two names above.

I think Coates and Bellamy can also be a big big signing for the club.

Downing, by far, but you can tell Henderson's gonna be a "good un"

agree with most people. value for money has been enrique. pleasantly surprised. the first time we've had a reliable left back who's good at attacking and defending sicne riise (though i think enrique's a better defender but riise was a better attacker).

downing has been the best signing so far, but not surprised about that.

think there's a lot more to come from adam and hendo. hendo's deffo looking like a future england regular and adam will show his true worth in freezing december/january games against the likes of blackburn, wigan, bolton and stoke

Downing for me, he's been very consistent thus far and has made the step up with ease in my opinion.

Well, the only 2 players bought to be starters are Enrique and Downing, and they are doing well so far ... I expect a lot from Coates and Henderson, but they are the ones for the future ... Doni, Adam and Bellamy will be backup squad players, and I think they will do well at that role ...

       :lmao:

If I am totally honest (remembering it's very early days!) I would say I have been delighted with Suarez, Enrique and Downing, satisfied with Adam and disappointed with Henderson and Carroll.

Bit harsh on Henderson and Carroll after just a few games, but they are at a big club now and we expect big performances.

Bellamy is a good player.... I just don't like him, so I try to avoid commenting too much, and I can't wait to see Coates play.

Downing has impressed me the most but as an attacking player, he can get away with making a few mistakes. Enrique looks like he's been in the side for years and hasn't
really been caught out by anyone yet.
Wouldn't really choose either ahead of the other.

      Jose Enrique.

It's been a while since we have had a left-back that could get forward, but also defend.

Very early days, but Enrique has slotted in a left back like he's always been here.
Downing has also impressed me with his pacey runs. Bit of pace down a side we previously struggled. Hell he can even switch over to the right.

That's not to say Adam and Henderson haven't been impressive in patches, but I feel if Gerrard gets fit this pair will be here to add strength to the squad, whereas Downing and Enrique are nailed on starters for me.

      What he said!

It's between the two really anyways, there's no doubting that. Enrique shades it for me.

To be honest, I was speaking more from Comolli's point of view ...

After all, he is the one making all these signings, not Kenny ...

Gotta be Enrique for me, personally I was hoping for someone like Cissokho or Coentrao when we were briefly linked with him but neither one of them could emulate Enrique's performances thus far. The guy doesn't get beat

Of course he has discussions with Kenny and the staff ... Ultimately, he is the one making the decisions on new signings ...
