I'd be happy getting Downing's signature on a contract to be honest. Like redkenny says, he has a quality left-foot on him, and he seems to be a solid and consistant performer on the wing. He impressed me last season, and I hope he will do it again this season ... but in a red shirt this time.

Never been a big fan of him but I want a new player so bad that I wouldn't mind to get him now. I'd rather have a different kind of player though, not an out and out winger like Downing

Even though there has been a few reports of a bid being made soon it looks more likely that we will be getting Riera

But dont Espanyol want a similar figure for Riera, surely Downing would be a better purchase because he is younger and wont have to adjust to the premiership. If we get Riera i wont be ecstatic but if he proves me wrong then great but at this moment in time i think Downing would be better value for money

Espanyol have apparently accepted £8 million. I see where your coming from, i disagree but i can see why you want Downing. I cant see Riera needing much time to adjust due to him having been here before.

The thing im worried about is him not adjusting because at Man City he did'nt do too well, i know they dont have players anywhere near on the scale that ours are but he wont be playing every week and he wont be used to that so what if we cant get the best out of him :-\

"What if"'s are the sign of pessimism! ;)

Look on the bright side - we now (almost) have a wide player in Reira. I'm confident once he puts that red jersey on, he will ooze confidence. My advice - don't worry! :D

Well even if we do get him i wont be over the moon but i will quite happily eat my own words and would love him to prove me wrong, if he comes to us then when he puts that shirt on i will support him like the rest of the team

Even not including the fact our players are far superior. He did ok at man city, he wasnt dreadful just ok not amazing. He was 24 back then and from watching games with him playing in them, more to see luis garcias play admittedly but still, he looked like a very impressive winger. The thing that strikes me is that the best performances that I have seen from him were against two of the best fullbacks in world football, Sergio Ramos and Daniel Alves. Im not saying he's the best left winger in the world but he has the ability to work the fullback and take people on like a winger should which is what we need on that left hand side.

I personally think Downing would be a good signing as he is home grown used to the EPL and had a good season last year, and he will play even better with quaility players around him, and he can cross a very good ball.
But the figure 10 million should be enough to get him???????

      Should we buy him?

Well he would be good on the left side of midfield and we could push Kuyt up front

      What do you think?

I think Albert Riera's a much better player.

And I think Dirk Kuyt plays on the right side of midfield.
