Best penalty taker ever?

I'd read your post pre match and as soon as Stevie missed my thoughts turned to yr post I blame it all on you TRM!!!!

I can't remember the last time someone stopped a Lampard penalty.

He's missed quite a few over the last few years, got to the point where Ballack and Drogba had taken over penalty duty for the Chavs and he was missing for England. Far from the best penalty taker but when he does score them more often than not there is no stopping them.

Dunno if anyone has said him, but it has got to be Graham Alexander. Amazing technique, amazing record. Look them up on Youtube.

He most certainly was HR a thousand times the player Gazza was. People used to argue Barnes can do it in a Liverpool shirt but never in an England one and I for one am glad that's the way it was but yet everybody has a w*nk over Gazza and his goal against Scotland in Euro 96.

Diggers goal against Brazil in 84 at the Maracana hardly ever gets played compared to that wife beating knobheads!

Took free kicks as well - scored more than 60 goals I think,and got a hatrick of pens in one game.

Molby scored 42 missed 3
Neal   scored 38 missed 13
Gerrard scored 32 missed 8

To be honest every penalty should result in a goal, all a player needs to do is hit it very hard low into either corner, there is no way a keeper, unless he cheats, can reach it in time, Germany figured this out quite some time ago.

I think for us, I always though Phil was pretty brilliant. But I was only a kid at the time. And his stats dont look as brilliant as I thought theyd be.


Of that era I think, was it Ray Stewart of W Ham who was also v highly rated?


It seems that in recent years, keepers have clawed back a tiny proportion of the balance in it.
Altho ofcourse penalty takers are still v much expected to score.

Aldridge scored 17 out of 18 penalties, a 94.4% success rate, making him officially the best Liverpool penalty taker. He was great for the Republic too.

Molby was my favourite spot kick taker though, I always felt sure he would score.
