Gervinho was ok in the world cup, quick but he lacked the end product, and played with his head down an awful lot. Not for me.

Me neither. He'd be exactly what we have here, someone who cuts in from his wing and runs in to dead ends.

Not hugely impressed  with him at the WC, although Ivory Coast were a huge let down anyway.

Yea Roy said something like that, we can only hope he was refering to Hazard.  Would love to see Benzema and Hazard signed, as well as Honda.

That's because it has been revealed that Ivory Coast forward Gervinho could be making the trip from Lille to the Merseyside club for as little as €12.5 million (£10.7 million) before the window closes.
IMScouting relayed the news, explaining that Lille had originally demanded around €15 million (£12.8 million) for their star striker.

However, the clubs have fostered a good working relationship over the last few years and Lille have allegedly lowered their asking price in a friendly deal.

The Ivorian international has been on top form and has so far scored no fewer than seven goals in Ligue 1 this season.

If predictions come true, it could bolster Liverpool's steadily-building league campaign and perhaps help close the gap with Chelsea, where Gervinho's fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba plays.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson isn't looking to replace current stock with Gervinho, though. Today he commented on the underperforming Torres, giving him his full backing despite his recent lack of form.

Hodgson said: 'Fernando is getting stronger, fitter and more confident. All he needs is a goal or two and then he'll explode.'

I'll take it with a pinch of salt if IMScouting is the true source for this info.

£11 mill for a 23 year old who is playing very well, and seems to have a lot of genuine talent not 'potential' I'd take him.

Not bad, but I think 10 million should be put toward funding better players if we get the chance to sign them, (Turan, Hazard, Dzeko, etc...)

He's really good, best Lille player after (and not that inferior to) Hazard for me. Was Messi-like in some matches I've seen these last two seasons. Easily worth 10 or even 13 or 14m for me.

Now not sure he is very adapted to classic english coachs tactics or training.

Coming from Guillou academy he's training with the ball at his feet since childhood, not to win physical challenges trying to head in hoofed balls.

If we had a "French Dexter" to tell us something more about these talents from Ligue 1 we're being linked with everyday.

Lille often use a 4-3-3, with Hazard and Gervinho as left and right forward and Tulio De Melo in the middle.

Fair enough. I'm also assuming/hoping we don't play a flat 4-4-2, more of a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3.

Not a player I think Hodgson would want, he's more a Comolli type of player. Skilful pacey and can finish well. I'm not sure if he cant hold up the play enough and wait for the long ball patiently. Good player though.

If NESV are serious we will sign Hazard not Gervinho
