Gutted like everyone else, but consoled by the fact, that at least we have the right man in charge of the team to recognise the extent of the  re-building program in the summer. Now is not the time for recriminations, time to stand behind the manager and the squad he inherited.

Actually - I agree. Kenny above anyone else will know what needs to be done, he will not stand for this sh*te.

I think we have something to play for, a lot of players Liverpool careers are on the line. Barring Johnson Reina Suarez Gerrard Carroll Kelly Raul Agger I'd be willing to listen to offers for the rest of the squad

Just logged on and the last three posts were on lucas leiva player thread, the lack of creativity in our engine room and jose mouronho. Knee jerk time.

Haven't had time to watch the match yet but I gather it wasn't great to watch. Lets be honest everyone just wants to get to the end of the season and see who we can bring in. Width being the priority. Draw a line, and move on.

I posted about Mourinho losing tonight for the first time in 9 years, pretty clear we have had a problem in centre midfield all season and Lucas was sh*te today. Dunno where the knee jerk is there and dunno what your link is.

No one has mentioned Mournho for the Liverpool job today unless I missed something no one has critised Kenny at all today

It would be knee jerk if the people who were making those posts had just decided that Lucas was a significant contributor to our all too frequent garbage performances. That isn't the case though (certainly not in my case anyway). He isn't good enough, never has been, and never will be.

but our problems stem from a static midfield pairing without enough quality and without quality or pace out wide to offset the problem.

      Absolutely. It's extremely obvious.

F***ing loved watching that! I miss that Gerrard, but it's a valuable reminder of how much he's done for us.

Stevie will come back, smash in a few 30 yarders and completely transform the team from also rans into a good side, and then if he doesn't smash one in one game, or is slightly off colour, you'll have clowns claiming he should be on the bench. As sure as eggs is eggs.

Like I said if we competed and won the midfield battle, instead of allowing West Brom to play through us at will, both those chances may not have been created.

Its not rocket science, nor is it bollocks.
Maybe, but if Agger had been on the pitch perhaps Odiemwingie wouldn't have done him over like with Soto.

      Ideal situation for me.

      Johnson in - £20m
      Young in - £17m

      Jova out - £5m
      Cole out - £5m
      Ngog out - £6m

Aquilani back from his loan spell.

3 in 3 out. Net spend of £21m. Spend the rest of our budget on top players, back up striker, 2 CB's maybe?
Left back and maybe one centre back for me.

Ah sh*t, Agger an Johnson off, massive part of our game gone now, worried.
I stand by what I said 25 minutes into the match.

And this is the problem, without Johnson we have no option outwide. Huge problem, been there for years and hasn't been properly adrresed, tried with Gonzalez, Riera ect who showed promise then faded.

Which is why as I've said we need to go in for players such as Young and A. Johnson. We could play a much better game with them and Aquilani alone.

It's not as big an issue as the wing.
                 Lucas
                              Gerrard

      Young                             Johnson
                       Suarez
                                Carroll
Wingers, left back, and a centre back for me is now a priority, but I think if we're going to debate this we should move into relevant threads.

I had to leave after the match and do something to relieve all the anger/tension. Played a 5 a side. Had to. Was definitely not venturing in here anyways, until now!

What was evident throughout the game and has been a staple of our away games for the entire season is our midfield just didn't put their stamp on the game. They were bullied and not allowed to play their game. They were scared. The couldn't get the ball, the wide men and striker got isolated and fed up, feeding off scraps. The defenders started to panic under all the pressure. All a domino effect really.

Obviously the injuries did not help, but the main factor was the lack of performance from each of the midfielders on show today and honestly, they should be ashamed of themselves. Lucas especially IMO after he got a contract during the week, he should have at least justified somewhat.

As soon as Agger went off, I feared for us. Then as usual when he isn't in the team, we decided to just to defend the 18 yard line because of the chronic lack of pace in the central and flank areas. Thus the whole team was too deep to support Carroll who had a stinker and Suarez who produced the only decent football for us all avro.

The real problem and it has been this way for almost two years is that we do not have a leader in centre midfield to take possession of the ball and crucially push the team 10-15 yards up the pitch. Anyone who thinks we don't need a proper playmaker in centre midfield is seriously thick or stubbornly in denial.

So now we've lost to all three promoted teams, Brom, Blackpool twice and Newcastle. As well as losses to West Ham and Wolves it must be clear that we've lacked the skill, guile and sheer nous to break these team down. No doubt Lucas will get pilloried but what about Raul M who was anonymous again, bar one corner kick. Hardly world class when you can't influence matches against the teams above mentioned is it...?

      So to summarize our day.

Hoof, hoof, hoof, pointless booking, hoof, hoof, pointless booking, hoof, half-time.

Hoof, hoof, corner, GOAL! Skrtel scores!, hoof, hoof, penalty even though
it's not, GOAL! Brunt scores peno!, hoof, hoof, hoof, penalty even
though it's not, GOAL! Brunt scores peno!, hoof.

      Full-time 2-1.

WBA were much better than us and deserved to win, because they were far, far, far better in possession. We have too many journeymen and technically poor players who lack pace.

The only defence of Raul is he is constantly being played out of position.

I agree its extremely obvious Kenny. I thought it was equally obvious against Sunderland in the first half..... but we won that game so I had to be taking the piss when I said we needed better quality in midfield.

The problem we have is people seem to think its was an off day by our midfield today. The truth is we played as well as we were allowed to. Neither Lucas or Spearing are ever going to dominate a team with their passing , neither are they going to cut a team open with incisive passes. The best we can hope for is that they do a "job" and hold their own allowing our better players (Gerrard) to produce the quality we desperately need.

Sadly without Gerrard and with no quality out wide we are always going to struggle while we are dependent on Lucas and Spearing having to step up and try to make the difference.

Keeping possession, playing safe 5 yard passes is great when you have others making and creating for the team, but when those players arn't available we just look a midtable side.

In fairness S@int, Meireles's job today was to do the creativity. He offered F**k all and went hiding, as he has in many away games this season, it could be argued that he was out of position but your quality should shine through no matter where you play. Look at Johnson since he moved to LB. Meireles's lack of fight is a big worry IMO.

Lucas, Meireles and Spearing's performance today deserve every bit of criticism they get for it.
