Spot on 7KK7, we panic, we get deeper and deeper and invite the goal into our net. It's horrible to watch when the lads sink into their shell like that. Who's to blame for that though, is it one or two players who infect the mentality of the others, the group as a whole or the coaching? Whichever it is it needs sorting because once we had our 2-0 lead we sh*t ourselves.

We've done it for a while now.

Something that just seems to be in our players.

Maybe it's that mentality we are talking about.

We would be a much more potent side if we actually had some kind of ability to score from corners. We seem to get countless corners per game and don't capitalise on them nearly as much as other sides.

Not the worst result. A decent result Sunday and we'll be well set to go on a run for the rest of the season. Just Chelsea, Spurs and Everton to play that are above us and all three at home. 7 points off fourth with Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Downing, Borini, Gerrard and Coutinho attacking teams looks alright. Some improvement on last September.

      Finally watched the goals.

Can anyone please tell me who the f**k Agger, supposedly our best defender and tallest player, was marking for their 1st goal?

Ball-watching all along, typical from him. Getting tired of it to be honest.

We seem to be bad at marking set pieces for my whole lifetime.

Yep. I said that earlier in the thread, Giroud was his marker. It was by no means a great run or anything by the Frenchman.

      Massively disappointing.

On the balance of the entire game we are lucky to take a point.

BUT you can't throw 2-0 leads away.

I'm sick of our sh*te defending from set-pieces.  It's every F***ing game.  Our defending has been abysmal this season - and it's definitely tactical rather than just blaming every single defender.

If you look at the chances the opposition has from our corners it's no wonder they let us have so many.

Partly yes, I'd agree there's a marking issue from the training ground. But at the same time, this is about 3 or 4 times this season Agger's marker has scored on a set piece. I love Dagger, but he's supposed to be our first-choice guy.

I'm thinking about the next game, but I don't like Suarez playing too wide or deep. Almost as if we are accommodating Sturridge, but need to find a way for both of those to play. Maybe a diamond 4-4-2?

I'm intrigued to know where this lack of composure and grit has come from. Seems to have suddenly started this season.

Even under Roy we were closing out games against Chelsea and fighting back at Old Trafford.

Well, It seems to me like our current system is very potent for getting to ball back quickly, but when it fails to, it's really lacking in sustaining prolonged assaults. We don't seem to be able to lock down leads like in the past.

Thing that stands out for me is that we desperately need an aerially commanding centre half. Their first goal changed everything, and like the goal against Man Utd the defending was absolutely awful. Until we get that sorted, we'll always concede cheap and fail to prosper.

That aside, I thought a draw was a fair result and it's a good point.

I've noticed that too. It's so frustrating.

I'd like to see how we compare with everyone else in the league.

      Started last season mate.

We'd get a lead and sit on it, often losing it.

By "the most part" I hope you mean the first 45. Second 45 was an absolute farce.

No I mean until we conceded after Hendo's goal.

Even in the second half we defended well up until that point, hence we were leading 2-0.

Playing well is not exclusive to free flowing attacking football, defending well can also be seen as playing well.

Just the deeper we got and the more we invited Arsenal on to us, the worse we made it for ourselves.

To be fair it feels like we have been sh*t at set pieces like forever. Since Rafa, at least.

Today it was Agger to blame. Not only in set pieces, he's guilty at ball-watching all the time. He is very good overall but not in those situations inside the box. It's a massive weakness for a CB.

Thought we would win . Thought we were going to lose. Thought we might snatch a draw. Then thought we might nick a winner. Situation normal then.
Only gripe for me - Downing dissapeared in the second half. Situation normal as i said.

      So as Allen.

Suarez my MOM. We played really well in the 1st half. They out played us in the second half. Draw is a fair result i guess. If we can nick a point from city, top 4 challenge is really on.

Thought you would have chosen Walcott or Giroud, so surprised by this.
