City pull away but to be honest it’s all our own doing. Yes covid cost us at spurs, but Brentford and Brighton were killers. Plus city and Chelsea were both deserving of a point at anfield. We needed a cushion for our mid season collapse but didn’t have one
Aye. At the minute we are on course for a 80point finish, which Has won the league title about 6 times since ‘92.
But the standard now is 85+ realistically and that’s just to be in with a challenge.
That’s a big ask for any team who has anything other than a bottomless pit of cash.
The Etihad project has meant that everybody else has to be near on perfect to grasp the title.
No time for poor form.
No room for injuries or covid.
And fixture congestion only benefits that Etihad project.
What we lack are game changers. We don’t have many.
Salah carries the bulk of the weight of responsibility and jota chips in with some goals as well. But mane and firmino often go months without scoring and origi and minamino are just not much a plan B.
Our midfield has lots of industry. It works tirelessly. But our only creativity can usually be found in the physio room in keita and Thiago. Jones is still too rough around the edges and again, our plan B is ox who, like origi and minamino, doesn’t cut it.
Our defence seems to be cut open too easily. Maybe VVD isn’t quite the same colossus as he was. Trent often seems to switch off and is the only position we have no real cover for. Gomez has taken a backward step as well this last few seasons.
I don’t think it’s about spending big, but spending right.
