      SF: Uruguay 2-3 Netherlands, 6th July 19:30 - ITV1
      Jul 06, 2010 07:35:00 am
There it is, the first semi-final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Uruguay, the last South American representative in the competition, would like to add to their 1930 and 1950 collection by going into the final on July 11th, against either Germany or Spain.

The South Americans drew with France (0-0), beat South Africa (3-0) and Mexico (1-0) to finish top of group A. On the way to the semi-finals, they overcame South Korea (2-1), and beat Ghana 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1, in which Luis Suarez, who has 3 goals already, was red carded after preventing the ball from entering the goal with his hands.

Netherlands, one of the three European nations in the last four, have a 100% record in the tournament and finalists in 1974 and 1978 would like to make their third apperance in a final. They beat Denmark (2-0), Japan (1-0) and Cameroon (2-1) to finish the top of Group E. They then beat Slovakia (2-1) in the second round and impressively beat favourites Brazil (2-1) in the quarter-finals.

Will Wesley Sneijder add to his 4 goals and lead his team to victory over Uruguay or will we see another upset?

I fancy the Dutch to enter the final.  ;)

      Nice intro there Adryan ;)

Uruguay likely missing several players, Suarez and Fucile are suspended, Lugano their captain and Lodeiro are injured.

Holland missing 2 players due to suspension, De Jong and Van der Wiel. They'll likely be replaced by Boulahrouz as RB, Demy de Zeeuw as DM/CM. Besides that I expect we start with the same line up.

I expect Uruguay to play really rough, but Forlan is the only really dangerous player in that team. This is the first big team Uruguay plays when you look at the countries Uruguay has played so far, so it is a bit of a test for them.

We should be able to win it if we don't get overconfident and complacent and fight for it. Hoping to see Sneijder do his magic, he made 4 goals and 4 assists so far this tournament.

      Really hard to pick this.

Would be happy for Dirk if the Dutch went through but I have a feeling Uruguay can upset them.

First I wanted Uruguay to go out early in the competition.

But I think it's been amazing to see them reborn as a football team, bringing back a tradition that gave them 2 World Cups in the past. It's been so long since they reached a World Cup semifinals. It's true they had luck on their way to this game, but it's still very nice.

Anyway, it's gonna be pretty hard for them as they won't have a few key players, like Suarez and Fucile. Their midfield lacks creativity so Forlan has to come back a lot, and Suarez was being very important to score the goals upfront. I think Cavani will have to play much better than he's been playing in the last few games if Uruguay is going to have a chance.

They've done the impossible before though, I think the Dutch will win this one but if Uruguay gets through, it's gonna be one of these special moments for La Celeste. It's funny considering how big the Brazil v Uruguay rivalry once was, but everyone is so surprised about Uruguay reaching the semifinals, that a lot of Brazilians want them to lift the trophy now.

I wouldn't mind Holland winning this WC though, I just would have liked a Dutch team that played better football to do so, instead of the current one. For a lot of people, it's probably going to be seen as the win of pragmatic football against the brilliant, attacking sides they had in the past but couldn't win anything.

I'm looking forward to see a new final and possibly a new champion. If Spain beat Germany in the other semifinal, it's gonna be the first final without Brazil, Argentina, Italy or Germany in the history of the World Cups. That would be something.

By a cruel twist of fate, in an offline Prediction League apparently my last hope of winning involves Uruguay needing to beat Holland then Spain winning tomorrow.

So regrettably I'm pretty torn between financial greed (Uruguay) and awaiting the possible comical nature of Ryan Babel popping on in a World Cup final (Holland).
