Kelly and Ayala broke though this season. Add Carra Agger Skrtel and Sotis into the mix and I really dont see the point in this signing

I think with him being 18 years old, if Rafa see's potential in youth he's going to go for it. It has the potential to save us a few bob in the long run. I'd rather him be training with and learning off of the likes of Agger, Carra, Sotis and Skrtel than other Rangers CBs. Plus Sami might be coaching here after next season. Rafa might see the four future CBs over the next 5-7 years as Agger, Skrtel, Ayala and Wilson.

He's a left sided CB so he could always play at LB when needed.

I like that we sign a British talent, he received the prize: "PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year" in Scotland which is a strong evidence that the boy has the potential to be a good player but the level between the Scottish Premier League and the English is quite big.

Danny Wilson is a very left sided defender - very much in the Dan Agger style. Wouldn't be surprised if Rafa perhaps has an idea of playing him sometimes at left back (which was were Carra first played remember)

Not sure if this is still rumour/speculation and not sure about the source either.

Rangers defender Danny Wilson, 18, is on the verge of joining Liverpool this week after turning down the chance to move to Tottenham.

The young centre-back is expected to sign for Rafael Benitez's team in the coming days after the Reds tabled an increased offer of £2.5million for his services.

Wilson had been tipped to leave for one of several interested English clubs either this summer or in January 2011 as his current contract expires next year.

And despite missing out on next season's Champions League, Wilson has reportedly opted to sign on at Anfield rather than White Hart Lane - passing up the chance to play in Europe's top club competition, for 12 months at least.

Wilson was also linked with Manchester United and Birmingham City, where former Rangers manager Alex McLeish is now the head coach.

He was named the PFA Scottish young player of the year and voted Rangers' young player of the year after making 15 first-team appearances in his debut season in 2009/10, scoring once.

Well if this goes through it looks like King Kenny has had a hand in it.

      Wilson rejects mega-deal for Liverpool
      11th May 2010 - Daily Express

Teenager Danny Wilson has snubbed Champions Rangers by rejecting a staggering £12,000 a week extended contract in favour of a move to Liverpool.

The 18-year-old was offered the biggest ever financial deal for a player in his age group at Ibrox but has opted to sign for Rafael Benitez's side later this week.

The central defender who has also knocked back interest from Spurs was earning just £700 a week last year before breaking into the Rangers first team and making a significant impact on both the domestic and European fronts.

His decision to head for Anfield in a transfer worth up to £3m with add ons means he will be sacrificing playing in the Champions League next season with both Rangers and Spurs.

But the Scottish Football Writers' and PFA Young Player of the Year who made 24 first team appearances in his debut season scoring once has been lured to Liverpool to work with former Celtic and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish.

Wilson has just over a year on his current contract and boss Walter Smith was keen to keep him for the longer term believing it would benefit his career and secure him more regular first team football.

Livingston-born Wilson came through Rangers youth system. He made his debut against Dundee last October and the following month the then 17-year-old became the youngest Rangers player to ever play in the Champions League.

In total he has made 24 appearances this season and scored his first goal for the club in their recent 4-1 win over Hearts.

Good man King Kenny. Glad to see the men in charge of our youth system are attracting the talent we need for the future.
      Well hopefully they are.

Set to be completed this week then.

Don't know anything about Danny to be honest - I never watch the Scottish league. I'm just aware that he's highly rated.

      Has anybody seen him play?

This deal does looks like it could go through but I'm just wondering why Rafa would buy another youngster . He might be highly rated but I don't want him to rot in the reserves . And in the article it says working with Kenny Dalglish which means he'd being aimed at the youth team and not the first team . I agree getting another CB would be great seeing as to that Soto and Carra are old . But looking at the fact that he chose us over other clubs with champions league shows that he's genuinely interested in playing for Liverpool .

Well so far when he signs thats about 4-5mil spent on two youth players.

Surely that could of gone towards someone to improve the 1st team.

      Yep.

We can only hope there was a buy back clause in the sale as well as a sell on clause.

Yeah, he's a talented lad for sure.

He's only 18 though, but is definately one for a few seasons down the road.

Danny Wilson's dream move to Liverpool has stalled - because the young Rangers defender does not meet a 'homegrown' quota system being introduced by the English Premier League.

Now the cash-strapped Ibrox club could lose out on up to £3million if the 18-year-old remains in Glasgow next season before leaving when his contract expires.

Sportsmail understands Wilson had proven particularly attractive to the Merseyside giants because they are planning for new regulations which will demand eight homegrown players in every topflight club's 25-man squad.

Liverpool initially believed it applied to footballers from across the whole of the British Isles, but their interest has now cooled after it emerged only youngsters brought through at English and Welsh clubs will qualify.

This has forced a hitch in the projected Wilson deal, which had seen Liverpool offer a £2.5m down payment, with a further £1.5m in add-ons.

While it is believed they still want to sign the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, it will not be with the same urgency as before. Wilson has rejected all offers of an extension to his contract with Rangers.

And it's understood that, if no agreement can be struck with Liverpool at the moment, he will resolve to remain at Ibrox next season before becoming eligible to sign a pre-contract elsewhere in January.

Any club signing Wilson would then have to pay only around £650,000 in compensation under FIFA rules relating to players under the age of 24.

FA Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: 'All clubs must declare their 25-man squad at the end of August after the close of the transfer window.

'No more than 17 of those players can be over the age of 21 and not home-grown.

'The definition of homegrown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system. It is not in a club's interests to stockpile players. It will make buying home-grown talent more attractive.'

Rafa Benitez has already started to adjust Liverpool's staffing levels, with young Englishman Jonjo Shelvey signing from Charlton Athletic.

So our quota of 17 wont include Stevie or Jamie as they are home grown. I think Glen is also.

I don't get what the fuss about him not being home grown is all about.
He's under-21 and thus does not occupy a spot.
And by the time he reaches that age, he'll be home grown.

No he won't, he's 18 already. He needs to have trained at the club for at least 3 years before the age of 21 to get homegrown status.
